Bioshock Infinite or The Last Of Us

2013 has brought forth two amazing and stellar games from creative minds and fantastic studios. Though, different in terms of genre, these two games share a common fact: They are emotional provoking, incredibly scripted and awe-inspiring stories that make it unbelievable video game experiences that I think have set the bar for storytelling in video games. The worlds that you traverse in both games are fascinating, scarce, beautiful and glorious to behold. After beating both games, I just like state that these two games, who are both GOTY contenders for sure, I would just like to know what people would prefer. I did the same post on the Last of Us message board, but now I am gonna do it here. So, what did you think of both, what do you truly admire from each, and which one did you like best?

The Last of Us. Solid gameplay, consistent characters and by the end I felt more for them than I did toward the beginning. NaughtyDog has always been great on the visuals but I was surprised at how slowly and naturally Joel & Ellie became attached to each other. Guess I expected more Uncharted with zombies. Also, playing as Ellie for that chapter (and again at the end) was a great idea. Made me feel for her more than I did while just playing as Joel. I would play Left Behind but I hear it's too short for the price. Maybe someday.

Pretty much the opposite for me with Bioshock Infinite. Loved the premise and the setting, but that's pretty much it. It's a shame b/c Infinite had the potential to be game of the decade but it implemented a bunch of interesting ideas in a terribly dull way. Too much like every other FPS game that I've played. The characters and story weren't consistent, it brought me out of the game and I never connected with Booker & Elizabeth. They were plot devices with names; the exact opposite of how I felt about Joel & Ellie. Their conversations and interactions during the actual gameplay felt natural and never out of place. On the other hand, I was very aware that Troy and Courtnee were in a recording both everytime their characters interacted. They sounded like exposition-bots with no rhyme or reason to where they were going next.

TLOU was good, but not infinite level.

gameplay wise the last of us was amazing, but the whole father daughter figure story line is so played out. especially for a zombie story. Plus it was way to linear. Infinate was so much more of an exploratory game. much more fleshed out.

But everyones opinion is different i guess.

just not much difference between the walking dead game and the last of us story wise to me.

While I love the Hell out of both games and they both deserve the status of "landmark games", I gotta go with BioShock Infinite. I like the characters more and the creators tackle soo many different ideas so deftly.

The Last of Us is a more intimate look at the reasoning for living even after trauma, but it wasn't as expansive in tackling themes or concepts that BioShock Infinite did. I love the feeling of dread and horror throughout the Last of Us, but I felt that BioShock Infinite was able to go through a pantheon of different emotions, different highs and lows, with such ease.

I also think enemies like the Handymen, the Zealots, and the Motorized Patriots are more creative and change up the gameplay more than say the clickers in The Last of Us.

Both are great games, but I felt that Irrational Games really delivered something that even topped the original BioShock.

its so obvious that those who liked bioshock infinite more than the last of us, are younger people aged 10-17 who havent played many games or watched many movies/shows to have BI feel boring.

It also seems like fans of the walking dead, and those that have played the game, seem to have the same feeling "been there, done that" feeling about the last of us, as i do about bioshock infinite. I havent played the game, and i am caught up on the show, but i have found the show to be pretty boring and weak since mid-season 2. I have found those i know that still are fans of the show, either love anything zombies, or are just kinda dumb lol.

Uh...no, I'm 25, and I've experienced a large swath of media over my time on this Earth. BioShock Inifnite is definitely up there.

I don't really like the show or the comics, but season 1 of the TellTale adaptation was fantastic. The Last of Us is very good, very well written. I just don't put it on the same pedestal as I do for BioShock Infinite.

A movie is a commercial success if it makes back double the production budget

Bioshock Infinite is the most contrived, boring garbage i've ever had the displeasure of playing. TLOU is the greatest video game of all time. No contest.

To me, there's really no appropriate comparison.

Bioshock I was a craven, gutless game that uses the brutal past of the U.S. as window dressing for a nonsensical multiple universe hodge podge. I absolutely hated the racist insinuation that slaves we're a flip of a coin away from being terrorist child murderers, especially considering that civil rights in the U.S. was achieved generally through non-violent means on the part of the discriminated (perhaps irrational could have plumbed the U.S. history a little deeper). If the gameplay was redeeming, i'd go easier on it, but BI is just a shoot everyone in the face kind of game. A shame too, since some talented and expensive work went into it. I hate it.

TLOU isn't without it's faults either, but these seem to be from rushed production. Some glitches, AI silliness and what not. I think they actually did a good job of integrating the gameplay with the narrative, which is hard to do in some games. It was a strong emotional and mature story as well, something I wasn't expecting considering these are the people who did Uncharted. I'd easily give the nod to TLOU.

TLOU was amazing but Infinite is a flat out masterpiece.
