Similar atmospheric films???

I am one of those people who loved film! I was wondering if anyone could suggest similar films with similar atmosphere. One of my friends suggested "The Orphanage" but any other suggestions? Any information would be helpful!

Stir of Echoes....brilliant!

This film immediately reminded me of Haunted (1995)-the premise is similar, actually. Since it's old, the info is here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113269/?ref_=rvi_tt

If one of the things you liked about The Awakening was atmosphere, check out Saint Ange. Although the atmosphere is very simmilar, The Awakening is much better in every other aspect.

Hide and Seek and Gothika are other movies you may want to check out.
Dead Silence too, however its kinda cheesy.

The Cell; is definitely a phenominal movie. But it's not for the weak of heart... It has some truly scary moments.

"The Others" is the most similar. There was also a 1970s film The Other" (singular) which I think was really good. Most people don't know about it.

The movie that I just watched prior to The Awakening, is Fragile [2005] - I really enjoyed it, although it takes place in modern times, the setting is definitely spooky. I liked it enough that I will be watching it again this week, but this time with my wife.

I too would second Fragile (2005). If I could add to the list I would say Half Light (2006) and Stonehearst Asylum (2014)

Two more to add to those suggested already:

The Innocents
The Woman in Black

I'm surprised that no one has yet mentioned The Lady in White. An excellent ghost story with a lot of atmosphere.

I was going to mention lady in white if no one else did, I've loved that movie since I was little.

Exactly. Original Woman, right? I'd also include The Others, the most obvious, which has already been mentioned, and Devil's Backbone.

Gotta say, wasn't expecting much. Girlfriend picked it on a whim, and her taste is more Twilight vampire-type stuff, which ain't me at all. Being a huge suspense/horror fan (good ghost stories, especially), I was damn impressed. Very clever, tense, slow burn, with an interesting (though not perfectly unique) story. Well-timed jumps as well, not overdone or Hollywood goofy.

Easily the best of its type in some time. Will say I did enjoy most of The Conjuring, too, which employed a similar psychological approach, but I wouldn't include it with these. Maybe only because of the modern setting, I don't know. Just spitballing here. Plus, it totally fell apart at the end.

This one, though, yeah. Well done, filmmakers.
