1. If you are the star of the movie, you can have gay sex with multiple HIV infected men and not get AIDS.
The main character had only ONE relationship. He wasn't promiscuous. Most of the the men who were shown to be promiscuous were infected.
2. Homosexual promiscuity is just an expression of freedom. Not because the behaviour/lifestyle is actually radically different.
I think you missed the point the characters were making about this.
3. Telling homosexuals who are getting AIDS to stop having so much promiscuous sex makes them angry.
But the thing is that when the movie was set - they did not know that it was spread through sex. I would think that a lot of people of every sexual persuasion would be upset if they were told not to have sex, especially when at that time there was no real evidence to suggest that it was what was causing the spread of the disease.
4. Gay men getting AIDS is the mayor's fault.
The film never at any time even remotely suggests this. Weeks was annoyed that the mayor was ignoring the problem.
5. When you make a movie about gays, somehow every 5th member of the general public is gay. Rather than 2-3% of the population, like in reality.
Untrue. This was a film focussed on the gay community. Unsurprisingly, most people within the gay community are gay.
6. Gay men getting AIDS is your wealthy/influential brother's fault.
Again the movie never remotely suggested this. Weeks was upset at his brother's attitude towards his (Ned's) sexuality.
7. People who enthusiastically spurn God's laws all their lives still have the gall to ask God for help when they are dying.
Human nature. People who never attend Church in their lives might pray when they feel they need some help or guidance. This is not limited to gay people. Lots of people do it.
8. The only straight people who care about AIDS are wheelchair bound German women who pretend they are Jewish. And crooked politicians worried about getting AIDS from hookers giving blowjobs. [/]
Sigh. Again, completely untrue. The film was showing how the governments and people who had the power to do something about it basically wanted to brush the problem under the carpet. This is what ACTUALLY happened.

Haha. Well, I will give you this one. Yes it didn't really look like it was set in the 80s. Except for the fashion show.

A lot of people would have been infected before they even knew about AIDS, and therefore would not have thought there was a need for condoms. Also, in the early days there was no way of knowing that sex could spread the virus. This very point is mentioned in the film.
15. Gay men getting AIDS is the airline's fault.
This is just incredibly really stupid. You know, I know, and anyone who watched the film knows that this was categorically not the point of that scene.
16. Gays somehow can't talk to each other about AIDS and require everyone else to communicate it to them for them.
I'm not sure what point you are making here. Lots of people discussed AIDS and HIV throughout the film and as you have already pointed out, a lot of the characters are gay.
17. Gay men getting AIDS is the medical board's fault.
Stop it. Just stop it.
18. AIDS apparently robbed the world of a lot of plays and dances.
Yes it did. It also robbed the world of lawyers, accountants, secretaries, teachers, etc. Of course, it's not just AIDS that did that. Cancer does it too. So in fact does any disease.

I'm beginning to think that you were not able to understand what characters in this film were saying. Did you have trouble with it? Because you seem to have completely and utterly misinterpreted what was said.
