Better than Huntsman...

I would give this movie ** out of ****. It was very cheesy in parts and some of it didn't flow that well.

that said..

It was better than that piece of garbage with Kristen Stewert. Here are some reasons why.

1. Lily Collins has more presence than Stewert

2. Though cheesy, the movie knows it is goofy and doesn't try to hide it like Stewert's version did.

3. The dwarfs are charming in this one

4. This one was better to look at. The other one was all muddy.

I didn't like Julia Roberts and thought Theron was better even though the interpretations are completely different.

i really liked this movie. it took me a while to warm up to it because i sat down with preconceived notions of what kind of movie it was going to be like (a dramatic fairy tale like every other snow white movie), and it didn't match up to that so i was thinking the movie was just poorly made. then about half an hour in, i was like ohhh, its not THAT kind of movie, its THIS kind of movie! and i was able to enjoy it a lot more once i stopped expecting it to be something else. i like wordplay-based comedy where the comedy is in the snippy sarcastic dialogue and fast exchanges, so this was right up my street.

i saw SWAH in the theatres, did not like it, but i can't even remember why, that was a totally forgettable movie. i only remember bits and pieces of it. i do remember thinking chris hemsworth is a total *beep* babe though.

Huntsman was a better movie.

Huntsman had it's fair share of problems, but with some screenplay/story tweaks, it would have been GREAT.

Mirror, Mirror was just all over the place. It attempted to be a comedy, but not much of it was funny (Nathan Lane was great and one or two of the dwarfs were amusing, but that was it).

And the ending song was really bad....

Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things: Jack and sh*t and Jack left town

One of the things I hated about SWatH is the dwarves; why the heck were they even there? What purpose did they serve other than filling out a plot. They had no story unlike in Mirror Mirror where they were at least treated like characters who were important.

I have to agree Mirror Mirror was much more entertaining and nicer to watch. I had a good time watching it and it also made me laugh a lot in some scenes. The movie was very charming.

Huntsman was boring. The movie did look beautiful and Charlize was amazing as the queen but the movie was very very boring and tedious. It was pretty much a chase scene movie. That's what I hated the most about it is that it was a continuously "chase scene" movie and it got really boring. The end was cool but the movie had lost my interest by that point.

I'll look down, and whisper no

I think 'Snow White and the Huntsman' was a much better movie than this. Yes, it did have its faults but overall it was a good movie. This movie was very average.

Since this is a Mirror Mirror board, I'll say my opinions on it first.
When I saw the trailers, I remember thinking, oh that girl is beautiful, oh this is another light hearted Snow White movie clearly catered to younger children. Oh I like Julia Roberts. How cute.

I finally sat down and watched it, in December and I have to say. It was alright.
* The acting: I enjoyed Julia Roberts, the Dwarves (to an extent), and the Prince, the most. What bothered me the most was Lily Collins, she is beautiful but jeeze, now she cannot act, watching her was painful. I liked the scene when she fights the prince in the forest, that was cute and the ending (not the song), when she confronted the witch for the last time was cool too, except the unnecessary CGI cutting of that apple. Otherwise, I didn't enjoy her too much.

*The setting: It looked cheap. The set outside of the castle was exactly the same. The argument that they were in a forest is not relevant because no matter where they went (especially the part when she was running after Nathan Lane let her go), it looked exactly the SAME! It was like they spent all of the movie's budget on the over the top costumes, some were just plain silly. I did love her blue and black bandit outfit though. Probably my favorite one. I get that it was a comedy but it wasn't all that funny, I got a chuckle out of it a bit but that was mainly from some of the dwarves and the prince.

*The story:I thought it was cute that they changed the story to Snow White kissing the prince to save him, that was an interesting take and cute. But the thing with her father was random and when it happened, I was like wait... wtf? That doesn't make a LICK of sense. I mean, I know Roberts narrates in the beginning (which I liked the opening) but it just wasn't really cohesive to me. I also didn't really see the message. Snow White represents goodness, purity etc... it turned out more like Robin Hood in some areas with the whole stealing thing and then a completely different story in others.

Overall, I thought it was cute but definitely not better than Snow White and the Huntsman.

I saw SWATH in the movies, the trailers were epic, especially with Florence Welch singing "Breath of Life", omg that was just amazing. I was psyched. I don't hate Kristen Stewart like my friends or some people, so I was excited to not only see her in an action role but to see her in a fairytale element. I also already liked the premise of the movie. Much different from the light-hearted Snow White stories we are used too. I have to say I adore the movie.

Here's why since some people believe you have to justify why you like something:

*The scenery was so beautiful, the dark forest was amazing. I love how they did that scene. The scene when she meets the large white Elk, also beautiful.

*The acting was good. I will admit that there are things Kristen does that I wish she didn't, such as her constipated face but she's working on it clearly, this character had much more to her than Bella Swan. It's a shame that people only see Bella Swan when they look at her. I mean go watch her in The Runaways, In the Land of Women, Speak, or Into the Wild. Chris Hemsworth was quite good, very different from his Thor character, strong, sad, unsure and all over the place but focused when needed. Thor was an arrogant child for a while. Charlize Theron, omg amazing, beautiful, frightening, and she looked great. Her brother was also creepy. The dwarves were great, hard and warriors... not silly which was a nice take. I dropped a few tears when Gus died.

*The story. Let's not forget that originally, Snow White is a dark story. Sure, SWATH took a few liberties but it's not happy go lucky as Mirror Mirror portrayed the story, nor as all over the place as MM. SWATH does well in showing the dark side of the story and it has a set goal in mind.

*The ending. I think some people have a misconstrued idea of the ending. Snow White did NOT turn into a warrior princess at the end. I mean come on, watch it again, she doesn't do a thing until she meets Ravenna and even then she gets her butt handed to her. It wasn't until the Queen got a bit too cocky when she struck just like the Huntsman taught her. "Use their strength against them." She hits like one person before she finds Ravenna and he had her up against the wall. Snow White knew what she had to do and was focused on getting to the Queen, who technically lost because not only was it fate, Snow White's heart was too strong and pure, but because she finally met her match in terms of a pure soul. This Snow White wasn't technically more beautiful, it was the beauty and purity of her being, of her heart. Not just her physical appearance.

So... SWATH was superior in my opinion. I've seen it a few times already. Mirror Mirror was cute and worth the watch but not better.

Let's see.

Snow White and the Huntsman had great action, an interesting Queen-Snow White relationship, Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman was interesting and well acted, I liked Stewart's Snow White as well and how she developed into a warrior.

...Mirror, Mirror's Snow White was a joke, the prince was obnoxious, jokes were not funny, and the seven dwarves were one note which is somewhat the same problem with the ones in SWatH except those guys did not make me want to punch the screen.

I would say that the highlights of the Mirror Mirror version of Snow White was Lily Collins as Snow White and the costumes. The prince Alcott was a bad prince. In the case of Snow White and the Huntsman, it was a better film since Ravenna was a more villanious character whereas Clementina was more of a joke.
