Better than Huntsman...

I would give this movie ** out of ****. It was very cheesy in parts and some of it didn't flow that well.

that said..

It was better than that piece of garbage with Kristen Stewert. Here are some reasons why.

1. Lily Collins has more presence than Stewert

2. Though cheesy, the movie knows it is goofy and doesn't try to hide it like Stewert's version did.

3. The dwarfs are charming in this one

4. This one was better to look at. The other one was all muddy.

I didn't like Julia Roberts and thought Theron was better even though the interpretations are completely different.

I give both Mirror Mirror and SWATH a 5/10
Mirror Mirror was better than I thought it would be and Snow White ATH was not as good as I thought it would be. I will say that Kristen did surprise me in SWATH, though she wasn't great she was better than I have seen her previously, and she did change her expressions frequently. But Lily Collins played the much better Snow White, she had the better personality and I understood why so many fell in love with her a part from her looks. She was very friendly to the dwarves and showed them the respect they deserved and through her efforts other people learned to respect them as well. Also I liked that she didn't become a warrior princess in the blink of an eye, it was shown that she had to be taught for an amount of time to fight and even in her first fight she still did not always have the upper hand.

I'm not reading your manifesto, keep your damn posts short!

I agree with what you're saying, especially about the dwarves and Collins, but it wasn't a good film at all. It was so disjointed and uneven I couldn't get into it at all. It had that wacky kind of fast pace at times which for some reason reminded me of certain moments in Moulin Rouge. Bit of a fail as a film really and I really wanted it to do well too.

Wow! Really?? I thought this version was very flat, thought it would be better.

reply

Never seen 'Mirror,Mirror' so I can't compare the two films. That stated I think 'SWATH' is just flat amazing.

reply

let me correct you there:

"I think 'SWATH' is just flat".

there, now it makes sense.

SWatH was the flattest, most uninspired, poorly acted, cinematic disappointment I've had the displeasure of seeing in years.

I was very much looking forward to it. And I was looking forward to K. Stewart demonstrating SOME acting chops away from that cesspool "Twilight" saga. And she didn't. She was just as wooden in SWatH as in Twilight.

You didn't like 'SWATH' cap, that's cool. I did. Thus don't feel the need to "correct" me.

"You can't have my heart."

reply

actually, I wanted to like SWatH. It's a film I had been anxiously awaiting.

I was disappointed because it was flat.
I was disappointed because it was scattered all over the place.
I was disappointed because despite a promising premise, it lacked originality.
I was disappointed because Kristen Stewart was as wooden and unconvincing here as in Twilight.

This film is so flawed that it really makes me question anyone who can assert that it was a "great film" as so many of its fans seem to be doing on the web.

because saying something is "great" is not saying anything about your taste. it's making an absolute statement about the quality of something.

if you say a film is "great", had better be ready to justify WHAT it is that made it a "great film".

"I liked it" is not a justification of the quality of a film.
It's a justification for "I liked it". Nothing more, nothing less.

My statement has nothing to do with taste.
It has to do with the qualitative evaluation that people make of films, which in turn is based on a complete lack of supporting evidence.

There are lots of "bad" films that I've enjoyed. I'd never say they were great. I'll say that "I enjoyed it", despite its flaws.

So get off your fricken' high horse. Your "taste" in films isn't in question here. You can "like" whatever the hell you want.

But do not have the ARROGANCE to state that something is "great" when all you really mean is "you liked it".

Because, trust me, you are NOT so good that your taste is a barometer of greatness.

forgive me for speaking over your head. it won't happen again.
obviously, you are incapable of understanding the distinctions I'm making.

Why the hell would you even post here if you didn't see the movie?

I'll look down, and whisper no

I totally agree that this movie was better than Huntsman. I felt like I wasted money when I went to see Huntsman but this movie was such a delight to watch.

Not only are the dwarfs charming in this one but all the characters are more charming in this one.

I also like Sean Bean's cameo. That was a nice touch.

Agree, wholeheartedly, GreenLanternGirl. I saw both and prefer this one. I'm a fan of Tarsem from The Fall, so was pretty eager to see this one as well. I thought it was better than the trailers made it seem, was funny, light, beautiful and charming. I enjoyed it a lot and plan to add it to my DVD collection.

Yes, I prefer Mirror to that bore of a movie too. I also agree that Lily has more presence. Her Snow White comes across as lively, strong and challenging without any other characters and the whole story build-up suggesting it so hard. I guess, someone like Jennifer Lawrence has the charisma to give a more prominent Snow White in the Huntsman version.

I just finished watching Mirror Mirror, and I must confess, I liked a lot more than Snow White And The Huntsman...

I took my sister to see SWATH (because she loves Chris Hemsworth) - but we both agreed that he more or less played the role like he did in Thor... I loved the effects and it was interesting to see a twist in the story, but now I've seen it and that's it...

Mirror Mirror however made me laugh several times.. I really loved the dwarves - they made it all worth while... Also, I definitely prefer Lily Collins as Snow White - she seems more gentle and thus more likable in the story...

I think I would actually buy Mirror Mirror - it's worth watching again :)

Are you for real???

If anything, Lily Collins was way more miscast.

reply

#2 is why I appreciate it. The movieknew it was cheesy and didn't take itself too seriously.
I haven't seen SWatH and I'm not sure if I will (unless I rent it one bored day from redbox like I did this one), but KStew is so utterly painful to watch, I highly doubt it.

You really think this movie is better then the Snow white and the Huntmen movie ? come on !

reply

Snow White & the Huntman is more like a Lord of the Ring's movie !

reply

If felt Mirror Mirror was way higher in quality than Snow White and the Huntsman.

Here are the reason why I liked Mirror Mirror, and disliked Snow White

Mirror Mirror

1. Great chemistry between Snow White and the Prince
2. The dwarves were awesome
3. Lily Collins was great, same with Nathan Lane
4. Julia gets to stretch her acting talent with herself and the mirror
5. Beautiful set design and costumes
6. The marionette scene

Snow White

1. Feels disjointed and episodic, the fishing village, fairies, and the troll do not come into play later in the film
2. Even though they got plenty of screen time, I feel there could have been more development with the evil queen and her brother. Should have alluded that they were like Hansel and Gretel and raised by a witch
3. Ending battle was laughable, except for the shard monster (that was pretty cool)
4. That pitiful attempt at a rallying speech, followed by fake instantaneous cheers
5. Kristen Stewart was only okay, never seen the Twilight movies so I can't compare but she was a little flat

reply

I really enjoyed Mirror, have seen it twice and will probably buy it eventually. It won't win any awards, but, it is far better than the Huntsman - which I had to force myself to sit through once and I was so relieved it was over. I like Chris Hemsworth (but I wish he'd get rid of that Thor hairstyle) and Sam Chaflin and the beginning looked intriguing, but, it was so dark, dull and depressing with seemingly no story except to set up a sequel that I could barely set through it
