I personally think a 6.5 is a generous rating for 'War of the Worlds'...I remember being so bored with that movie that I actually fell asleep about 3/4 into the movie.
On the other hand, I love every minute of Pacific Rim, I've watched it so many times already that I've lost count, and every time I watch it it has me glued to my seat from beginning to end, personally I think it deserves more than a 7.

I was so hyped to see the new rendition of War of the worlds in 2005, but then what I saw was disappointing. A boring movie with Tom-ass cruise and his movie family (he's a good actor, but I don't like him much, otherwise). Humanity is invaded and then all we get to see is every day drama inside of a family. Why? Why not make it more majestic? Anyway, I see I gave it a 6, probably was feeling generous, I don't remember much of the movie, today... meanwhile I gave Pacific Rim an 8, even is some things could be done better, I still loved it.

War of the worlds was well directed, pacific rim was insanely well directed compared to transformers except the battle underwater, Neither is a great movie, I think their scores are fine and this is the most dramatic exaggerated post ever.

Imagine you deeply love a movie and you would give it 10.
That movie getting 7 is the most painful thing to see. It's not terrible, just not that good, average.

Who cares about average user rating?! Even kids can rate. I always pay attention to MetaCritic scores. When I first signed up I'd always looked at IMDb ratings, but then I realised metascores are overall much better representation of the quality of a movie.
