Overrated lol

It was alright. Not one of Di Caprio's best though. Fell asleep a few times during it.

I was very eager to watch this, which is probably one of the reasons I was quite disappointed. However, besides the opening scene (was it all in one shot?) and the amazing cinematography and the unbelievably well made bear attack scene, I didn't find much too that interested me about this film after that. After a while I was thinking "yeah OK, so he's going to survive miraculously, get his revenge, and yeah".
I know realism is not always necessary in films but I would've thought one if this nature would have had more of it. I realise now it was probably based on exaggerated and embellished-over-time folklore rather than the actual events (which no one seems to really know too much about) but really, it lost me when he fell off a *beep* cliff, down through a massive tree all the way to the ground and again survived, this just after being almost killed by a bear and trekking through freezing conditions mostly crawling or floating down some rapids, eating *beep* all. I mean C'MON! The reality aspect was almost as bad as Gravity.
And I have to agree, as I expected a great performance form Leo I was again underwhelmed. As someone pointed out, he hardly said anything in the movie, just grunted and crawled and was seemingly award on physical acting. He didn't even really do much for the bear attack scene, he was just slung around by harnesses. I could comfortably say that his performances in Blood Diamond, The Departed, Wolf of Wall Street, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Django Unchained, Inception, Shutter Island, The Aviator, Catch Me if You Can, Basketball Diaries, hell even *beep* Titanic were probably better than this.

Star Wars is like pizza, even when it's bad it's still pretty good.

Its because there was no great films from last year other than Inside Out which is why this film did so well.

I've watched it once and I'm not really that interested in watching it again. I'd say it's overrated based on how much praise it got compared to my liking of it.
