i didn't that film yet and was wondering why was it called that ?
Is there a particular reason in the film why "revenant" was used rather than a full English word ?

Pretty sure that's because it was a monster in D&D.

shareMost movie titles try to inspire curiosity, or stick in your mind. "Like Water For Chocolate" - whaaa? "The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing", "The Men Who Stare At Goats" etc.
Anyone who speaks French would have made an educated guess, like our friend above, that a "Revenant" is someone who returns. That's what I did - I had no idea it was a DEAD PERSON who returns. That's interesting.
There was a French TV series screened in the UK a couple of years back about a bunch of kids who came back from the dead after a road accident. It was called The Returned, the French title was Les Revenants.
This means something, this is important.
In Germany they called it "Der Rückkehrer", which is simple german for the guy who returns. So I guess someone agreed with the OP!

Generally, unless they are writing for children, authors do not dumb down the titles or content of their works to accommodate people of low education or low intelligence.
The English word revenant refers to someone believed to have returned from the dead to haunt the living.
I think it is titled "The Revenant" to lazily explain away how Glass recovered from what should've been a death sentence. So, perhaps he did in fact die, and was something of an undead being for most of the movie.
