would you date ellis?

one of the things that really disturbed me about this movie is that ellis came off as such a stalker. he was so obsessed with her, he looked up her address. it didn't feel like adaline really loved him, more settled for him because he wouldn't go away. if a guy pursued me like this, i'd call the police, not date him! and furthermore, it's gross she also dated his father.

OMG, you are awful human being and must be living in 1984. This is how natural human courtship works. If she had agreed to a date after just a few word in the elevator that would have made her a bit of a slut and if he gave up on the first try, it would have meant that he was only interested in her for one thing.

There's not a single moment where she told him to stop or say that she didn't like him. She was always courteous and reciprocated his flirtation. Ok, maybe five messages was a bit over the top, but it still wasn't inappropriate. He could have shown up at her appartment the very next day, but he only did that after they had shared a bed together. He tried consoling her when the dog died and she made clear it is over between them. Then he gave the flowers to a random asian lady and never looked back or tried to bother her again. In fact she didn't even say that they are done, or that she doensn't want to see him again, she just said that she's moving away. That was enough to imply a definitive termination and he took the hint. The entire affair was very old timey.

You really have a weird way of looking at natural human courtship.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to appear like a misogynist acting like women are so shallow, when the same standard applies to men.

But absolutely the only reason why his advances are tolerated is because he is extremely good-looking and because the movie is like an airport novel where it eventually turns out to be true love.

It's not like she played hard to get 2 times and the guy was persistent enough to win her over.
The guy got rejected up to 4-5 times, he blackmailed her into a date and went behind her back to her address which she refused to give to him from the start.

If the guy was a 60 year old ugly fat guy who made the same moves and at the end of it all would (rightfully) be rejected again he'd be regarded as the ultimate creep and probably ready for internment.

For the record: I HATE Fifty Shades of Grey.
BUT I don't see Ellis as a stalker or a creep, he was very intelligent, nice and yeah, good looking - I would date him.
1. the book donation - it was no 'blacmail', when Adeline resisted, he was 'okay, I go get the books' and left, she called him back.
2. the adress - it happened after they were dating and spent a great night together, that he visited her with flowers. Oh, what a douche! And again, when he was turned down, he left for good.
What a paranoid age we live in...I can see why Adeline was so nostalgic for the past.

No. Harrison Ford, yes!

Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?
