I'm not a fan of the casting either, but whats done is done. They can still maintain Detta's hatred for Roland by making her think he is "selling out" to the white man (Eddie) and they're plotting to rape and kill her.
She is delusional. And some people have hatred that is just as strong if not stronger for people they consider "traitors" to their race.
