Didn't I see this movie already...

Didn't I see this movie already, I think they called it, Nacho Libre. A little originality would be appreciated from Hollywood once in a while.

reply

lol @ the original guy who copies every other post out there with the "this movie used to be called..." line.

Dumb@ss.

reply

Yes, I don't have any originality that's why I don't make make millions of dollars working in Hollywood. But, I do expect some originality from those who do make big bucks.

reply

Hollywood and originality in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

Didn’t I see the title of this topic before? Like a million times?

reply

Did you see this movie?
Did you see Nacho Libre?

Are you smart enough, even though you apparently are willing to admit you lack originality, to see the major differences in the storylines of the two movies?

Apparently not.

Whoops. Revising last comment. You, "sleepy_head" are an asswipe.

reply

I see.

I'm an "asswipe" because I exposed the truth, that this movie is NOT a re-tooling of "Nacho Libre" and ruined your illusion.

I won't sink to your level with insults. The truth speaks for itself.

Thanks for confirming that HCTB is simply "Nacho Libre" redux... much appreciated!

Nacho Libre - A movie about a Luchador Monk. It's a comedy about wrestling
Here Comes the Boom - A teacher practices MMA. A comedy about mixed martial arts.

Yeah, I'm sure UFC fighters would love how you equated them with professional wrestlers.

Doe us all a favour and go back to complaining about movies you actually watched.

I think it's closer to 'Warrior' actually. Teacher practices MMA. Wins at the end.

Did I get that about right? I haven't seen 'Here Comes the Boom' yet. Only difference is, 'Warrior' isn't a comedy.

So I'm guessing, this must be the comedy remake of 'Warrior'.

reply

Honestly, I havent' seen Warrior yet, but it sounds about the same. This flick was a comedy, and I understand that Warrior was a heavy drama with mma mixed in. Good call.

Warrior is exactly what I thought.

"Oh, Britta's in this?"

reply

You do know that Warrior isn't the first movie to feature a working class guy trying his hand at fighting professionally, right? Maybe you've heard of Rocky & Cinderella Man?

By your logic, My Three Sons and Bonanza are the same show since both shared the plot point of a father taking care of 3 sons.

Uncle Charlie = Hop Sing

reply

Of course not. The 80's were ripe with those movies. Only difference is, we didn't get 'Rocky' and then a ripoff comedy version of Rocky in the same year. This isn't a historical movie comparison. Two movies came out at nearly the same time, with nearly the same plot and theme, where one was a comedy and the other wasn't.

I saw paul blart. Nuff said.

I thought it was called "Warrior"

The movie isn't original, but it still entertaining and that's the most important part for going to see a movie. There are a lot of movies like this, where a person or a group of people have to do something to earn enough money to safe some other cause. There has to be over a 100 of these type of films out on DVD right now, but it with different characters and a different script.

I thought this movie was funny and entertaining. A bit violent at times, but that's what MMA is all about. I thought Kevin James did a decent job. His exchanges with his real life older brother Gary Valentine was great. I didn't even know he had a brother, but knew after seeing Gary that he was either Kevin's brother or a very close relative. They not only look alike, but sound exactly alike as well. Selma & Henry are all very good here, but there parts could have been played by just about anyone.

reply

Thank you, i thought the same...The movie did its job and that was entertainment. So what the story is old and used..i liked it the movie and thats the main thing.

reply

I'm not trying to defend the movie or anything, but one of the most famous UFC fighters is(was?) a teacher. It's been brought up a lot throughout his career, maybe that inspired the writers. It's a seemingly unlikely story that probably would have been made sooner or later.

Or on the negative but just as likely, the writer's could just be using the MMA buzz to shamelessly sell a very typical comedy.

I don't understand how movie goers are so comfortable taking the most broad similarities and actually shout rip-off and pinpoint a single movie. The sad part is that it's always these very formulaic dime a dozen comedies that any plot can be inserted into.

reply

The difference was this had a story, content, good writing and decent acting. So um.. No you didn't.
