Right — the film makes clear that Nike was the market leader in “running” shoes which was then, by far, the largest segment in the footwear industry because lots of people wore them as their everyday shoes. But they were in third place for basketball shoes.
What are you talking about? Nike stock was around 15 cents a share in 1985. Its a 120.00 today!
Here's what is known. Nike was fairly obscure before Jordan. His shoe singlehandedly revolutionized basketball shoes, put Nike on the map as a powerhouse in the sports shoe and clothing industry, and Jordan brand became one of the most recognizable brands on the planet raking in billions in revenue. That's a pretty big impact.
As for stock prices, don't know don't care. Probably someone more interested in that type of thing could give you a valid economic reason. Or just google it.
