You either laugh or cry your way through life. I prefer to laugh.

The problem with the FD movies is that if you've seen one of them you have already seen the rest. So level of enjoyment of the films largely depends on which one you watched first. Since I watched the orginal first that's also my favorite but I also think that FD1 had the best acting and most suspenseful death scenes. The death scenes just became too ridiculous in the sequels with often obvious and clunky CGI eventually stranding the series in B-movie territory. Contrary to popular opinion I also believe that FD5 was actually even worse than FD4.

I love this franchise too, but I don't own the DVDs and have only seem each once, so I can't distinguish how they're different from one another. You guys are much more sophisticated on this than I am. Are we going by favorite/most creative deaths, character, tone, changing/addition of the rules? I just actually saw the the last one last night and thought it very good. For one, the characters aren't very pretty teenagers but very pretty adults. I liked the twist of how to cheat Death and how it introduced morally conflicting ethics for one character, and then the clever ending but that was a bit of a cheat to make it so: why would she die if she didn't die in the premonition? I might watch all five of them again to refresh my memory of what happens in the earlier films.

Best
1 - Final Destination 2 - Best continuity, some brilliant deaths, some pretty good characterisation, generally great fun.

2 - The Final Destination (i.e. fourth one) - Ups the ante on the deaths, absolutely hilarious.

3 - Final Destination 3 - A good job by the actors, but a rather crummy script, some less than ideal pacing and some rather hit and miss characterisation.

4 - Final Destination 5 - A lacklustre beginning and strangely I wasn't terribly impressed by any of the kills asides from the first one (not including the opening sequence, which I suppose was alright too but I found that sequence to be a bit of a mixed bag). Gets really good towards the end, but I felt it was a bit too little too late.

Worst
5 - Final Destination - I really don't think they'd found their feet at all yet with this one. Death seems to be more of a ghost than just coincidence. The bit where the water recedes back into the pipe being the most notably supernatural moment, as opposed to the more natural deaths more commonly found in the FD movies. And the deaths were less ingenious. An exploding computer monitor? Because of water spilt on it? Please...

Final Destination 2 - 9/10 - best deaths, in my opinion
Final Destination 3 - 8/10 - haven't watched it in a while, but from what I remember, the deaths were the most realistic in the series
The Final Destination - 5/10 - didn't like the over-the-top sexualized aspect of it and the comedy didn't work, could've been so much better - they didn't really explain how it was THE final destination (what made it so different than the previous 3)
Final Destination 5 - 7/10 - I liked how they turned it into a prequel, it took me till Sam was looking at the plane ticket to realize it was set in 2000
