The gymnist

Was her death the most ridiculous death in the entire series? She fell about 6 feet onto a padded mat and yet her spine shattered like glass and somehow had the force to erupt from the body.

In real life she would (at worst) fracture her neck or spine. Most likely should would just get a head knock and a headache.

Suspension of disbelief is all well and good, but it at least has to be somewhat reasonable. Otherwise in the next movie we will have someone cracking their skull open falling out of bed

See, I just watched this flick, and came on here to say I thought hers was the most high-larious death of the entire series. Of course it's not really plausible, but as a former gymnast I found it hysterical. I'm a guy, and high bar always freaked me out the most because of the potential to slip while I'm creating torque and you have no control of your body or how it lands.

Kerri Shrug was taped taking a horrendous fall off uneven bars and her body was basically in this same position, minus the open fractures. Let me find it on YT real quick... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGQb5LYVhag So maybe it's not AS bad, but gymnasts do take some incredibly unlucky falls.

Poor Candice took the unluckiest fall of them all... But really it was funny, because the chalk flies up, and she still goes around a couple m times before trying her triple dismount like she was going for Oly gold. When any other gymnast would STOP and just drop to the mat on their feet. She was really serious about that dismount, but just got lost in the air.

I think it's one of the best deaths in the series. I still think my favorite is the black guy at the gym on that weight machine. haha

As a gymnast myself I can confirm that yes, her death was ridiculous (as they all are in FD movies) but I thought I'd be able to help settle some arguments.

1. The fan chord through the room- obviously it's a dumb idea, but gyms can be dangerous like that. Myself, about 6 years ago, stepped off the rod (sprung) floor, about half a foot (it that) onto some concrete and stepped on a screw (left behind from recent construction) and in my haste of lifting my foot up, rolled over my other foot and got a small ankle fracture,

2. The "powder". What you're thinking of it the chalk bucket, which are yes, that close to the bar most of the time. It is used to keep the gymnasts from slipping off the bar (though some hate it and just have to have their bar sprayed down, ugh), but the chalk on the mat wouldn't have stopped her body from sliding on the mat.

3. The spotting issue- If she was going to have a spotter in that routine, it would have been for the tkatchev, and not for the dismount.

4. Her keeping going- I can't speak for everyone here, but if it was me, I think I would do one of 2 things; either a) kill my swing, which with her momentum she still would have been able to do after a giant or two. or b) do a simple layout dismount that I've been doing since I was 8, rather than throwing my actual dismount that takes thought.

and 5. Her 'snapping in half'- Could it happen, I'm no professional, but I'd say, probably not, though gymnasts can have many gruesome falls. People saying her landing on mats would save her from injury, need to realise that it's all about how she hit. In my personal career, I have seen someone get a compound fracture in their arm from landing on their but in a closed pit (very soft and very bouncy) just because she put her hands behind her. I also recently heard about a girl landing on her head in an open foam pit and ended up breaking her neck. (I know, scares that *beep* out of me too).

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.

All was well- 15 July 2011
But there are much worse games to play 23/03/12

Lol. I agree with you. It was totally unrealistic. Almost made me laugh.

it's intentionally made funny, just think of the many things people do and don't really die from, the Chinese needles, the laser beam of eye correction! you didn't get the theme joke.

Yes it was the most ridiculous death of the entire series.

Remember the magic words: "Please", "Thank you" and "Step off bitch!"

Yes, it was a ridiculous pose. She looked like they just lifted a building off of her. Also, her coach was her spotter.
