Who should play Jackie?

My answer would be Rachel Weisz!!!

reply

Winona Ryder would be amazing!

Both of the actresses you guys mentioned are already in their 40's. Portman makes more sense since she can play her in her 20's and all the way up into her 40's. With makeup it's easier to make someone look older then it is to make them look younger.

I know that it sis a little over a year after you posted this reply, but from the plot of this movie is taken place after the assignation of John F Kennedy. I don't know if they open the movie on the day of November 22nd, 1963 where we will see any of the events of that day, or where they end the movie either. She was born in 1929, and at the time of her Kennedy's death they had been married for 10 years. If she was in her 20's it would be her very late 20's at the time of John's death.

reply

Weitz? Ryder? Portman?

I didn't know Jackie Bouvier Kennedy was Jewish.

reply

It's called acting and of these 3 actresses how many of their roles are them playing jewish characters?

reply

I just think it's odd that of all the actresses chosen to play Jacqueline Kennedy, the only names being cited are those of Jewish actresses. And in most instances the racial/ethnic identity of the characters these actresses play is not stated, but just because we don't see them observing Shabbat it doesn't mean that the characters they're playing aren't Jewish, something the staunchly Catholic and Anglo-French-Irish, and practically WASP, Jacqueline Kennedy, certainly was not.

Aronofsky first proposed this project years ago, when he was living with Rachel Weisz. She was his announced choice for the role. They broke up shortly after and there went that.

Now, years later, no one seems quite right to me. Jackie was a unique combination of steeliness and frailty. Katie Holmes does seem the best of the candidates. Angelina Jolie would be the most dynamic choice, but her own celebrity would probably work against her.

Blair Brown was the best screen Jackie in the miniseries "Kennedy," but I can't think of anyone who would be quite that right today.

reply

I think Jacqueline Bisset played an older version of Jackie in a recent TV film, and physically her and Jacqueline Smith, who has also played the part, seem to resemble her, even if they aren't the best actresses. Likewise, Katie Holmes seems to embody similar qualities to Jackie Kennedy, but is not perhaps the best actress.

Weitz and Portman are, by contrast, excellent actresses but don't project the right feminine poise and demureness for the part, and surely Angelina Jolie would be even worse in that respect.

Jews created Hollywood and brought motion pictures to the masses. Christians are constantly trying to destroy cinema. I vote for the Jew

reply

I had no idea that Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and D.W. Griffith (United Artists founders in 1919) were Jewish! Douglas Fairbanks (married to Mary, 1920-1936,) and the fourth member in starting UA, was Jewish. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Artists

Katie wud be purdy enuf 2 play her

So you don't think that someone can play another person of a different religion? What makes it more difficult than an actor playing an alien or someone of a different profession or even someone of a different species? Do you think that they should only have auditioned actual bears to play Baloo in Jungle Book? Leonard Nimoy I don't think was whatever religion Spock was in Star Trek. Do you think maybe they should only have hired actual Vulcans? Do you think that Liam Neeson was unqualified to play Oscar Schindler? What do you actually think the job of an actor is because I have a sneaking suspicion that you don't actually understand it. Either that or you just don't like jews.

reply

I don't mind Jews, especially Shebrews like Jami Gertz, Andrea Martin, Amy Irving, Carly Simon. I don't have much use for male Jews, but I like Paul Simon.

No use for these 'brews:
Irving Thalberg
Jack Warner
Joseph Schenk
Adolph Zukor
Carl Laemmle
T.C. Fox
Sol Teanz
David Selznick
Leo Z. Lyon
Cecil Beany DeMille
Art Metro
Samuel Goldwyn
Louis B. Mayer
Georges Melies
Louis and Auguste Lumiere
Charles Pathelogical
Edwin S. Porter
Thomas Edison
Jakov Jakovich

I think Marion Cotillard would have been perfect to play Jackie. I was 8 years old when Kennedy was shot, everyone loved the Kennedy's, women mimicked Jackies style, her makeup, her hair and so much else, she was royalty in America!
Jackie Kennedy Onassis had a chic foreign polished air around her one that Portman could never create because she's rather wooden, not enough emotion in her to be the very real Jackie Kennedy.

reply

Exactly, in fact why does it even have to be a white women or a women for that matter. Ashton Kutcher would have been perfect for the role IMO.
Oh and as for the guy who shot her husband not only should he be played by a Brit, but the story itself has to be changed so that the assassin himself was in fact a Brit.
1950's/60's England and Manchester United soccaaar player Bobby Charlton would fit the bill nicely.

reply

Anne Hathaway, maybe? I saw a clip of 'Jackie,' yesterday, and Natalie Portman was talking in that whispery voice that Jackie used publicly (especially in the tour of the WH special)that by all accounts, she didn't use privately. I hope she isn't using that way of speaking throughout the whole movie.

reply

She doesn't.

reply

finally a great actress is playing Jackie after all those movies about the iconic Jackie O.

reply

Katie Holmes! Definately!

reply

Hahaha hell no!

reply

Definitely NOT Natalie Postman, that's all I know. Jackie was tall and demanding yet uber-feminine; she also had a model-esque figure with broad shoulders; Natalie is simply too short and slumpy. Not to mention she looks pretentious as hell in the new trailer... I would have hoped for someone with better ACTING SKILLS as the final choice too. Oh well, another Oscar bait vehicle I'll intentionally (and gladly) miss because of the horrid Ms. Portman.

Actually, Jackie wasn't tall, she just projected tall: she was about 5ft 6" but a little-known fact is she wore a size 11 shoe. Because she was so slim and elegant, she looked taller than she actually was. I haven't seen this movie yet, so I can't comment on Portman's acting. I thought she was awful in the Black Swan, and can't believe she won an Oscar for it. However, she's a pretty solid actress in terms of her acting skills. I think Rachel Weisz is a great actress and probably would have been a good choice as well.

reply

Well, she´s not that bad but I find her a little cloying for my taste. Rachel Weisz would´ve been the best choice.

How about Keri Russell? Linda Cardellini? Maybe not high profile in movies but they could´ve pull it off.

reply

There is just no talent in Hollywood anymore, all the roles have been taken up by Portman, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone and they are all horrific. Off the top of my head Gemma Ward could have done a good job.

reply

I don't think they could find anyone ugly enough. So it's not gonna be very authentic LOL.

Seriously, how did Jackie Bouvier/Kennedy/Onassis/Farquarson/Fernandez-Fluff get two incredibly powerful, successful, super-rich men to marry her?!

There's hope for everyone if this face can net a man like Kennedy or Onassis.

She has a face like an ugly fish.

reply

Actually Jennifer Lawerence would have worked. But I have no problem with Portman

...............ZING!

reply

You are hilariously dumb. Jackie had something besides just a face. She had class, style, and personality. Unlike you. Go catch that ugly fish because it fits you perfectly, dummy!

reply

I allways thougt Jeanne Tripplehorn looks amazingly like her. Sadly, it´s too late for her.

reply

It wud require a stately actress dat embodies beauty, grace, and elegance. There4, I nominate Lindsay Lohan.
