Did Sasha's weight gain ruin the character of Ali for you?

I love Sasha and i am aware of her condition.
However, i feel like her gaining the weight changed the character of Ali. Her wardrobe isn't as spectacular or fashion forward as the other girls. What do you guys think?

reply

No. Them stripping her of all of her interesting qualities once she returned in 5a ruined her character for me.

Her weight has nothing to do with it. That's gross.

reply

Basically. I do think the stylist should choose a wardrobe that fits her character but then again she no longer has an identity so it works out.

I agree. Her character was all over the place in 5A. She was okay in 5B, got boring in 6, and got a little better in 7A.

reply

This. They didn't know what to do with Ali once they decided she was alive. Was she good or was she still evil. Her character was all over the place and had nothing to do with weight.

No. Ali's queen of mean wasn't about fitting a certain weight category. If she had been written well enough then the weight gain shouldn't have mattered. Inconsistent writing and making Ali into some sort of a victim and stripping her of her personality was what ruined the character for me.

reply

no, it was definitely the writing. in 5A she hadn't even gained much weight if i remember, but her character was already rolling fast downhill.

just to play devils advocate though, its possible that even if the writing had kept up her weight gain might have affected the role. people clearly got butthurt about it, and while there's nothing wrong with her looking more like a normal girl, we tend not to think of them as queen Bee types.

Being gigantic

Gross.

You have a very warped sense of "gigantic." Sure, Sasha has gained some weight, but she's not anywhere near gigantic. She isn't even unhealthily overweight.

reply

Yes it definitely did.

Her wardrobe changed and frankly I thought they did a poor job dressing her up to flatter her new body type but she also no longer came across as the pretty mean girl who could've convinced and manipulated her friends to do all sorts of things for her. She's still pretty don't get me wrong but weight changes people...whether it's bigger or smaller.

It's sort of like if you went to a high school reunion and the pretty popular girls were now overweight...you'd definitely look at them differently.

Not at all. It wasn't her weight or the wardrobe that changed Ali as a character, it was just the fact that she went from being portrayed as pretty much evil in the flashbacks to showing that she was more complicated than that when she turned out to be alive.

Ali didn't become boring until season 6. she was great in season 5 especially 5a.

reply

I wish that she would get some of her old sass back, but at the same time I understand that she's tired of fighting and just wants to live a somewhat normal life.

Sadie from Awkward was bigger than Sasha in the early seasons and she was VERY believable.
