OT: Riverdale
Who's going to tune in for the premiere?
So what else is new?
I was coming on to see if anyone else had mentioned Riverdale- I think with PLL exiting, Riverdale might be an all right replacement. I like PPL better (so far) but Riverdale has some potential!
shareJust updating because I finally watched it. I really liked it but of course nothing can replace PLL (in my book, anyway). There's just something so special about PLL that other shows cannot replicate for me.
I really had no idea Riverdale is based on the Archie comics? I've never read them but most people know the gist, the characters, etc. It was kind of distracting. And I didn't even recognize Cole Sprouse, I had to come here to check what character he was lol
I saw it already too. I found it alright. I'll see what direction it goes.
I'm little familiar with the Archie comics but never read them too much. I also just knew some gist and characters. And of course there are the spin-offs like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Josie and the Pussycats-- with their own shows and movies that I grew up with. There's already an all-black Pussycats for this series. Maybe Sabrina could soon appear in this too?
I didn't realize Cole Sprouse is Jughead in this until you brought it up. Lol.
So what else is new?
PLLs early seasons have a special vibe that you simply can't replicate. I liken it to a feeling of nostalgia despite it being new, there's just something about it that feels familiar and comfy. I have similar feelings about FLCL and once upon a time.

The earlier seasons of PLL felt fresh when it started. The writing was actually great and the characters are developed well compared to the, ahem, other show that stared Shailene Woodley. PLL is still definitely a one-of-a-kind show. Riverdale might be too. Let's see how it will progress.
And what kind of familiar vibe does FLCL exactly convey?
So what else is new?
FLCL was a 6 episode anime that was chock full of werid *beep* but also had some really deep themes and messages. When I watch it it just reminds me of the time i first saw, back when i was 12 or 13 and staying up later than my parents knew, long summers of just doing the stupidest *beep* young teen stuff, you know? it gives me the kind of feelings that the tutorial part of Kingdom Hearts 2 gives me.

I oddly got into that show when I was in my early teens too. The themes and the messages of the series actually made more sense when you rewatch it. In a way... I saw that anime as a gender-flipped Alice in Wonderland. Where puberty is one of the basic themes, the two main characters are like Alice and The Mad Hatter, some other parallels, and tons of random/crazy events take place.
So what else is new?
I have older sisters who loved the Archie comics, they were like 8 and 9 years older than me but I loved looking at the comics - My sisters would tell me what the characters names were and who were their favorites so that is the only reason I'm familiar w/the Archie comics. Now when I got a little older my brother (only boy sibling) who is 7 years older (yes I was the youngest and I love my brother and sisters so much, but they loved calling me playfully bratty, little Ms. Princess b/c I was spoiled but I wasn't bratty or aggravating only sometimes to them- I had my own friends) use to order thru mail the MAD magazines, I LOVED those magazines but my brother loved getting them first but sometimes I got the mail before him, which he didn't like b/c my brother had a summer job as a paperboy and saved his money to get them Mad magazines and other guy stuff.. but I understand NOW why he wanted to see the magazines first.
I will have to let my sisters know that Riverdale is about the Archie comics, they will love it! My older sister already loved CW for TVD ad TO, her FAVORITE SHOWS though were Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel; she also loves the fantastic show Supernatural and so do I and my son (I have a lot in common w/my older sister; we both love Anne Rice books and anything SUPERNATURAL. We live in New Orleans and I had female friends only who lived at the St. Elizabeth boarding school for Orphanage, I went to school w/a few of them. How crazy is it a decade later Anne Rice turns it into her "lair"- just kidding, her home it was so unique and fascinating as well nothing like I remembered it well talking about the décor of course) Anne Rice, I think sold it and moved to California. Anyway, my sister and I were so excited they filmed Interview with a Vampire here in our GREAT CITY OF NEW ORLEANS! I can't wait to tell BOTH my sisters about what Riverdale is based on! SORRY SO LONG! JUST EXCITED!
I liked the pilot. I'll definitely be tuning in for future episodes.
