The difference in Audiences between 80s Arnie and now

Arnie and Sly's current movies still get the guys to the cinemas, back in the 80s they had the sex appeal to get the women too. Now all the girls and woman want the twilight type wimps. So that is a huge market gone and accounts for the reduction in box office.

Plus a lot of the new generation want heaps of CGI and stuff like that.

Maybe some of that lack of box office pull is down to the fact that you have two really old guys who have both had waaaay to many face lifts and are simply well passed their prime.

reply

Neither of them have had any face lifts and Sly is still in great condition for his age and not just for his age but in better condition than men half his age

reply

of course they are older and dont look as good or cool anymore but is anyone going to argue that the last stand is a good movie ?

no they just want good movies. something neither of them has made since the 90s.

CGI stuff was also 'wanted' by sci fi fans back in the 80's. so not much has changed regarding this.

yes , today gen. is more into 'macho figures' like ...whaz his name...justin beeper

reply

Except you didn't really get CGI in the 80s. Jurassic Park was the first blockbuster to really put CGI in the forefront of everybody's mind.

You got special effects, yes. Creatively and intelligently designed special effects made by talented artists. Physical stuff that looked real on screen.

Now you hire a group of graphics guys with computers and more often than not it looks bad since it's done cheaply, with too hard deadlines and by people and technology that can't keep up with demands.

I'd take properly done special effects over average CGI any time.

Women never liked Stallone or Schwarzenegger. Their fans were always men.

The whole sex symbol status is a fleeting thing for any star (well maybe Cary Grant could still pull it off into his later years). Once the good looks go, the masses don't want to bone them anymore, otherwise we would all still be lusting over Kathleen Turner and Jane Fonda in 2013.

Totally agree with the OP.
