Such people actually exist

There are not many movies which show this, but the persons and environments in this film are a reality for millions of people in the US .

Living in plywood shacks or trailers, having dismal education and little understanding of social interaction , they are arguably amongst the most neglected beings in any Western society .
And the most useless, too , ....

And thank goodness for that. I agree that many people in the real world are as stupid and hopeless as Moon but do they have to make a movie out of him? It was painful to watch.

I did enjoy the scenery and the horseback riding chick.

Met many of them in Pennsylvania

We here at imdb are blessed with the good fortune of having these unprepossessing woodsfolk available to mount jackalopes and serve as alien abduction fodder etc. etc. as we casually discuss their plight from the comfort of designer desk chairs crafted by pygmy chinese school children hee hee lucky lucky us!

I live in the woods--what are you saying? j/k (but I do live in the woods)

OP is a complete and utter moron, just the type that gets all their information and history from Hollywood movies instead of actually experiencing reality. Hollywood and this director don't know the first thing about people who live in that part, everything is a cliche and over exaggeration, just like Hollywood's version of the ghetto and people who live in the ghetto. I think the OP just wanted a excuse to lash out and call them "useless" based on what they saw in a movie in the safety of their moms basement.

Not agreeing with the judgements but this movie hit home for me. I have lived in Arkansas most of my childhood and Western Pennsylvania near W.Virginia most of my adulthood. So, yes, there are whole landscapes full of tiny towns just like is portrayed here.

If you want to see a fun take on rural life, take a look at Sam Rockwell's movie Box Of Moonlight from 1996 I think. Filmed in Tennessee and also beautiful - a very different film, an Indie.

I agree with this statement. Although I am from the UK, I noticed that these types of country people in the USA can keep a secret, and they also speak straight when they talk to one another...no sugar coating things unnecessarily. That can't be said by the talking heads in suits.

"I have nipples, Greg. Could you milk me?"

I totally don't agree with OP's 'useless' characterization 

it was cliche, but stereotypes tend to usually hold water. so ya, i guess its some of that white privledge i hear about. we def need to put money into these areas every bit as much as inner cities (who need it, as well) before supporting refugee brigades and illegals.

I DO CROSSWORD PUZZLES IN PEN CUZ IM JUST THAT CONFIDENT

That single first shot is an embarrassment. No self respecting hunter would shoot at an unidentified target. Especially if poaching, you would not miss and have to track a wounded deer! You should hear us make fun of you stoopid, useless flatlanders. Venison is good eatin! What you eat? a lot of processed food? Who would wanna interact with you anyhow?

True, but I've seen people do this, in Canada, but they were Americans. Four of us were camping in the northern wilderness of British Columbia. We also did a bit of small game hunting, like rabbits & grouse, for extra provisions. Came across another camp nearby; American "hunters" hooting it up (our beer is somewhat stronger). Stopped to chat for a while & asked how they were doing. "No luck, just some sound shots". We were unfamiliar with this term so they explained it - hear something moving in the bush & fire at it. O..K !?

We broke camp & moved faaaar away. How these clowns got guns into Canada, I don't know. Probably paid big bucks for a big game ticket. We didn't stick around to get more details. No-one here operates that way. There are rather stringent tests just to buy a gun, so the low-lifes rarely have them. We don't have your Second Amendment, which has been totally misconstrued, by the way.

I have heard of cases where hunters have shot at targets sight un-seen, and in all cases were not local people, but visitors from the "big city." Real hunters do not shoot at targets they cannot identify 100 percent.
