Why did they suddenly fill the urge to tell us with text on the screen which character we was about to see? That was so dumb, all this time in the show and suddenly they do this, its like someone was fucking around in the editing room and it got left in.
It was supposed to split the episodes so each was from a different character POV, but covered roughly the same period of time. They've sorta done stuff like this before, but never really in a consistent way.
shareYeah, it was an artsy-fartsy device to use on a TV show, for sure. We already well-know who all the characters are so there was no need to chapter/title each sequence. You can add this to the list of "Unneeded, Stupid, and Pretentious Storytelling Devices used on The Walking Dead." For me, it's right up there with using the flash-forwards in time that are really just delirious imaginings by Carl.
I read somewhere it was Angela Kang who structured the episode that way. She does some writing for the show and will be the new showrunner for season 9 while Gimple has gone to FTWD.
shareYeah its like someone working on the show watched Pulp Fiction the other night and tried to make the episode feel like a Tarantino movie. Only difference is in a Tarantino movie sometimes he does it that way to tell us the name of characters cause we don't know them yet, but as you said we know every character on the show so it was stupid and pretentious.

shareThe Game of Thrones books are written in that way. Each section of each book is entitled with the name of whichever character whose POV it happens to be. They were trying to use that literary convention.
