I went to Horrorhound and was planning to see JDM (Negan) but

I did not get a photo or an autograph. Seems Mr Morgan is much too GREEDY.
He was charging an UNHEARD OF PRICE for a convention of fans. $80 CASH! No credit, and you had to pay that amount in a different locale in the convention. THEN and only then were you assured a PLACE IN LINE to see him. The line for Saturday was 'cut off' at 4 pm. If you wanted to make the Sunday line, you had to pay and then you would get place in line.
So, I did not get to meet him, nor would I under the circumstances.
He ain't god and I don't care about him that much to pay that.

That is highway robbery. How much were the tickets to the con?
I feel like once you pay the very steep admission, that should cover all the meet & greets

Anywhere from$25 per day to $45 for the weekend to $200 + for VIP

Nah, each celebrity charges for an autograph or autograph/photo

I've never paid money for an autograph and never will. I would buy a book or record or whatever at a store event that has an autograph session but then you actually get something besides the autograph.

I have a friend who already got two pictures and autographs with him (even hugging). Was not that difficult she told me. Maybe there was a misunderstanding with the con organisation.

I wonder if it's him setting the prices or some other party involved. Because they could set it to $15-$20, and that would be a much better price, but then the lines would be insanely long, and most people would never even get to see him.

But I admit I don't really know how these conventions work. Do the actors usually set their own prices for autographs?

iam not sure bout that. I dont know how your convention handled it , but the usual procedure is that they ask the actors agency for a price. Than there will be negotiation about the pay. After agreement the convention has to make sure that they pay the amount. How they do it, its totally up to them. Next step is a contract where they set their conditions like : panels, autograph sessions, dinner. The actor himself is doing not much in the process, just saying yes or no. Work is done by the agent and convention organisation.

Yes, this sounds about right. But easier for everyone to just get down on the guy
I think the whole autograph thing has turned into a bit of a business these days because so many people just turn around and sell them on Ebay. If they get charged enough then there's no profit for the profiteer.
Personally my only interest in an autograph, anyway, would be to sell ..

I agree it sounds high. When I went to a Star Trek Convention, the price for a Shatner autograph was $100. Other actors charged about $40-$80. Then there was a different price list for photo ops.

Look, I don't blame anyone for charging what they can. It's what the market will bear and no one has to do anything they don't want to. But I wouldn't pay it. The only autographed items I have are books and DVD's where the signing was part of the publicity tour and there was no fee.

It's quite normal for the celebs to charge for photos at these events and $80 sounds normal to me, it a guarantee for a photo.

But I see many many fans that get photos at the autograph tables and all the cast (including JDM) are very good with this.
