Did you cry?
Three middle aged women in front of me were weeping at the end.
shareI was fairly touched -- but Jackson's final scenes knocked me out :'-(
shareI heard several sniffles in my theater. I was damn close to tears during the last song. I usually don't cry. There have only been 2 or 3 movies in my entire life that have actually made me cry and this one came damn close, so that's something.
shareMaybe a man tear or two.
shareNope - I thought his suicide came almost out of nowhere and wasn't good developed. It felt tacked on.
After all he went through one conversion made him kill himself?
But I liked the film overall - good music - good performances.
He was going deaf. He knew it was coming to an end.
shareUnfortunately, the second half of the film goes into needing to follow the previous versions, where it instead had broken free of that in the first half. So, you end up with the movie having to kill Jackson off, whether there is a good reason to or not.
It was too bad, I think that they should have just gone a different direction and made the movie their own. If Jackson "had" to die, make it from liver failure, or something like that. It actually would have added to the tragedy, that he was going to get to have that moment with Ally on stage, and had come so close to functional sobriety, but it just ended up being too late.
I agree, dying because of body failure due to his alcohol and drugs problems, would have worked better.
It even felt a little bit cheesy how he killed himself - little bit gimmicky.
After watching the film I checked out the summaries of the previous versions (spoiler):
1937 - suicide (drowned himself in the ocean)
1954 - suicide (drowned himself in the ocean)
1976 - car accident
The last one isn't well received according to wikipedia. Maybe that is why they chose the "classic" ending.
Yeah, just too bad. They way they did it here turned a possible 9 review from me into a 7.
share"Nope - I thought his suicide came almost out of nowhere and wasn't good developed."
Thanks a fucking bunch, I have not seen this film yet!
Nope, was waiting for him to hang himself. Movie was starting to drag just before he did it. It's a movie no need to cry.
shareThe final song was terrible to the rest of the movie was great the ending wasn't great.
shareNo. I've seen all four editions of this story, and know what's going to happen. And, that's what the problem was. While the film was adventurous in charting more its own path in the first half of the film, it unfortunately fell into following the originals way too closely in the second half. That led to a disappointing film, which instead could have been great.
