This has made me officially lose my faith in IMDb.

A 6.4? Really? How does a film like Avatar get an 8.1 and this gets a 6.4? Is this a joke?

I'm done with IMDb ratings. All of the voters are unintelligent imbeciles. Now I'll just stick with the message boards, where I can preach how stupid all of you are.

Films are my only friends.

It's American idiots that have brought the rating for this down while inflating other poor films. In time the rating will even out and become more accurate. I've seen it time and again; some new films get seen en masse and the mass, I'm afraid, isn't very bright.

Hey! I'm an American idiot, and I loved this movie! You know not whereof you speak!

reply

Ha! Just because you're an exception to the rule does not the rule unmake.

To borrow from the American game of baseball, mate:

Strike 1: Your arrogant and pretentious attitude that anyone, American or otherwise, that doesn't like a movie you do is an idiot.

Strike 2: That it's Americans that are mainly giving this crapfest a negative rating. Had you bothered to fact check with the User Reviews before running your mouth, you would have seen that the overwhelming majority of those giving this movie a low rating/review (1-4 stars, mostly 1) are from... the UK!

Strike 3: Your stereotypical, knee-jerk, fanboy response, full of expletive insults and devoid of reason or relevance... OK, this last one hasn't happened - yet. It's up to you if you're going to strike out.

You didn't lose faith in IMDb until this? I guess you missed the mudslinging when The Dark Knight was released. It made Shawshank Redemption #1 because TDK and Godfather fanboys were too busy voting each others movie 1 just to get the rating down. It was hilarious.

I always check IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes (most importantly the consensus) and Metascore. Also gives me a bit of a feel for how dividing a movie is. Seems this one is fairly dividing, people seem to either love it or hate it.

Loving is a big word, but I thought it was pretty sweet. The actors were very believable as alleyrats and criminal youth, the language supported that. The aliens weren't spectacular but serviceable, I liked the glowing teeth, nice touch. It wasn't story-driven, so I don't mind the simple story. It's about the characters and those make it work. Very fine flick, especially with the limited budget.

When i first read this post i thought you were amazed by the high score it got, but instead your post made me laugh so hard. This was rubbish and should have scored nothing more then a 4.

OMG. This is one of the worst films I've ever seen. My boyf and I didn't even bother to watch all the way through and skipped to the end and wish we'd never bothered. If you are backing men who mug women at knifepoint then you have issues.

Films are your only friends? Yep, I'd try getting real friends

Great movie...loved it...it was so funny and exciting at the same time...good characters, memorable dialogues and great acting all around.
It should get rating of at least 8 if not more.

reply

some of IMDB ratings are quite outrageous. However, it's easier if you think of the scale as a base-10 logarithmic, like the Richter scale. So in essence a rating 6 movie is 20 times worse than a rating 8 movie.

reply

Not to be critical, but on a logarithmic scale, wouldn't a rating of 6 be 100 times worse than a rating of 8?

reply

Indeed.

I think a base two logarithmic scale matches the "n/10" rating system decently well. If each step up were supposed to be TEN TIMES as good, I'd want a scale with more granularity...

reply

The average rating for this clap-trap should at least be 4.8.

The rating is about right. The is a subjective board. i can understand some people will plainly dislike this film, whereas others (mainly some younger people) would think this is just wicked!

Its that man again!!

reply

Let me clue you in on how ratings work here.

Avatar cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make. With that kind of a budget, you do some work advertising, because it's a product. Part of that advertisement is to get people and sometimes computer programs to write fawning reviews about how great a film is so more people will see it.

This film actually got a probably fairly accurate rating - because there was no normalcy bias involved - or very little, and 85% of the reviews of it coming out weren't just spam advertisement.

reply

Actually professional critics loved this movie. As did audiences. Just apparently not here

You failed to factor in racists who vote down movies starring black people purposely on IMDB. They aren't as prevalent on other ratings sites. This is the one they group up on to drag ratings down.

I've been saying that for years....
