This wasn't even filmed in iowa!
If they are going to make a movie about my home city than they should film it in the actual city!

shareThe movie "The Crazies" was supposed to be in Iowa, and they came to CR at the end. Well, it was obvious at the end that they were not going to CR. The movie was filmed in GA.
Also, *then
It should be "then they should film it in the actual city!" Not 'than'. 'Then'.
At least in the trailer for this movie, it looked like they took footage of a flyover of CR to put in the film.

Iowa is not know for being 'Hollywood friendly'. I still remember an episode of '24' when a truck they were tracking was driving through Iowa on I-80. There was an explosion, and they said something along the lines of "The mountains will shield the blast..."
Uh, what? I have been along I-80 from one end to another in Iowa. How did I miss a mountain?

The Crazies was filmed in Iowa. I know this for a fact because my mom worked on that movie. Some of it was filmed in Georgia (I think it was that place where they were keeping all the people prisoner), but a lot of it was filmed in Iowa.
sharethey couldn't film in Iowa because of the film-tax scandal.
they production was originally planned for CR, but was forced to move to Michigan.

I recently went through the CR airport for the first time in a decade, and it's really nice now. It used to look like a bus station. I'll be disappointed to see a Michigan airport claiming to be CR after my pleasant visit last year.
shareInteresting! Here's something about the scandal...

Alot of the Social Network was actually filmed at Johns Hopkins and NOT Harvard... Your point? They do it all the time in the movie industry.
shareI assume you're joking. You do realize that 99% of movies are filmed in a place other than where the movie is set, right?
share"If that's what you think maybe you shouldn't be able to drive a car"
MaC0987, what have my doubts about homeland security have anything to do with me driving a car? If you would just scratch the surface a little bit more you might find that home depo has been running around for years trying to come up with solutions you couldn't even dream of.
Next time, before you blame names you should look in the mirror.
Tax incentives...it's all about the $$$$$$$$. It's the reason why an all-American superhero movie like the Superman reboot went to Australia.
shareThe external shots actually were largely of the real Cedar Rapids, even if the actors weren't there. There's a shot of the city from the air flying in and then a pivotal scene where they are walking along the real Cedar Rapids riverfront (which was probably CGI, but it was nice of them to go to the effort since 99% of US viewers prob have no idea what the real Cedar Rapids skyline looks like).
And beyond those external shots, practically the whole movie took place inside the hotel, so what did it matter what city the hotel was really in?
I'm curious if you apply this criteria to other movies and TV shows that you watch. It's fairly common for logistic, aesthetic and financial reasons to set a story in one place but do the actual production/filming another.
shareYeah! The original Poster is right! This is just freaking stupid.
I mean, they filmed Total Recall on Mars, right?
Shut the *beep* up, ya whiner!
