I just don't understand 2 hour 34 minute runtime..

I mean, it's a summer fun movie. Isn't the object to show Indy 5 as many times as possible every day? You can show a 2 hour Indy movie a lot more than a 2:34 Indy movie.

Seems more like self sabotage by Disney more than anything else.

It just doesn't add up.

It just occurred to me - this movie has a run time of 154 minutes.

55 Days at Peking has a run time of 153 minutes.

Dial of Destiny is a schlock (or rather, slog) with drawn out action scenes, at least one of which was completely unnecessary (nothing pertaining to Helena's fiance needed to be in the movie).

55 Days at Peking is an epic which justifies every single scene, and has an enormous amount of actual content. You want it to be exactly as long as it is.

I fell you could shave at least half an hour off of Dial in action scenes alone, and it would only improve the movie.

I agree with what RedLetterMedia said about the action scenes running on too long but I assumed that was the norm these days. The part that I thought should be longer was the part with the boat and deep sea dive.

Yeah, the one action scene that was new for an Indy movie, it could have been a lot longer.

For sure. That whole sequence was great. Antonio was awesome and the adventure was fresh for the franchise. And the old timey scuba gear was super cool. A change I would have made would have been to bring Sallah along so that you could have had three old timer adventurers chumming it up about the good old days and being the moment that Hellina realizes how shallow her life is, igniting her desire for more.

Too many assistant directors is usually a sign a movie will be bloated. I think it come back to a movie with too large of a budget ends up getting a bloated crew and once you have too many ADs you end up with too much film and then they seem to get into a with have it so lets use it mentality that ends up with a bloated film. You'll find the latest Mission Impossible movie is also bloated. Indy would have been a better film if it had been cut by at least 30 minutes to ditch the chase scenes that got boring. I understand having a lot of ADs when you are trying to churn out a movie quickly and need them, but too often today movies get so damned many it results in bloated movies.

So with the previews theaters show beforehand, we're talking almost 3 hours in a theater. With covid still lurking, no one should be going to a theater. Shame on you super spreaders

Covid, coming to a theatre near you!

reply

Not me. But you super spreaders are going to get us all sick again.
