Maggie starting to show age

I think she looks her 35 yrs this season. Before this season she looked the early 20s part and a romantic interest for Ben. Now she could be his older aunt or sister.

I agree with the Hal/Maggie romance. It never came off quite right to me that her character would be interested in his. I know there is only 5 or 6 years age difference between the actors but it seems like more than that for the characters in the show.

reply

Agreed. She always looked a bit old for Hal, then Ben just sends the creepdar in a spiral.

Because it never happens in real life that people 10 years or more apart fall in love with each other 

O ye it certainly doesnt :D

Yeah. I don't know where the starting to came from. The Hal/Maggie/Ben thing is torture and it's still there, so just like last season I'm cutting bait on this show. Sad. I did enjoy it for a while.

For most women today, especially actresses, there is not much age to show at 35, which is more than I can say for the most men. Actually in this first episode this year in the scenes with Hal and Maggie they looked pretty much the same age. There's another issue for me, of believing that Hal is supposed to be 18-19 or 20, actor has become more mature in his looks. But perhaps it plays well for the story too, as his character has been coming of age during the war and that is known to make some people to mature faster.

The reason why Maggie looks more exhausted now is because she's supposed to look like that: tired, and they actually are "showing" now how "her" roots have grown (which was a subject of criticism on here a while ago, people were asking questions how she was supposed to do her roots with apocalypse and all). Bad hair makes many people look worse. Dark hair make many people look older. It's very simple.

Yeah, right. I'm sure your opinion is entirely unbiased.

Anyone can easily tell if a woman today is 25 or 35. No amount of makeup or surgery can fix that. Deal with it.

Just like you can tell when an 18 year old is being a misogynistic d*ck. Go back to streaming FALLING SKIES on the macbook your mama bought for you. D*ck.

Whoa, who pissed in your coffee?

I did!

I don't know how old you are, or how many women of different ages you've seen/met in your life, but it's a fact of life that if a woman looks after herself in her 35 she will look better than many women in 24-25, because many women of that age might not be looking after themselves that well at that age yet. Different story would be between women in their 20-21 and women in 27-40. Most of us, people, still have that boyish-girlish youthful cheeks or plumpness in our faces from the late teens until early 20s, i'm not sure if it's hormonal or not. But between 21 and 25 people change the most, after that and until later not that much, unless it's some extreme situation. Most of the changes in the appearances between 25 and 35 is due to weight gain/loss and letting oneself go. And there's no need for surgeries at 35 yet, though one might have trouble explaining it today even to some women in their 20s, some groups of women are so overly concerned with their appearances that they start botoxing and even surgeries in their early 20s. Perhaps, you are on of those? If so, than relax, it's mostly in your head.

More and more men start looking after themselves better now too and thus looking good, but I guess there's still less of them than women, because it's really sad how bad some men look in their thirties.

It sounds like you don't know many people. I am the same age as Sarah and most people I have met still think I am in my early 20s and I have been asked for ID when I have gone to clubs and bought cigarettes and I don't even wear much makeup unless I am going somewhere for a special event.

I think most of the people complaining about the age difference are very young. I really wouldn't have thought anything of it especially since Hal never looked the 17 or 18 he was initially suppose to look. And it's all such a minor difference anyway...especially in an apocalypse.
If the genders had been turned around I doubt anyone would have mentioned the difference of a few years. Society still has that mental block regardless of how the woman actually looks.
Maggie still looks young to me. I couldn't put an exact age on it but a woman hanging out without creature comforts playing warrior in the apocalypse shouldn't look like a prissy music video babe.

reply

Nope. I'm around the same age as the actress. And she looks every bit her age. That wouldn't be a bad thing if her character wasn't claimed to be a lot younger. I actually think she looks better than in previous seasons, same for Ann. The problem is just that they look to be the same age. Both look mid-thirties. I can buy Hal as 21-but-looks-25-due-to-rough-life. There are no other characters his age to compare to. But for Maggie - supposed to be early 20ies - there is Ann, supposed to be mid-thirties.

Lourdes looked early 20ies. Maggie never did.

If the genders were reversed, you'd basically have Tom dating Lourdes. People would notice that and people would label him a creep. Maggie going after Ben is just that with flipped genders. It's not "a few years". It's her being in early to mid thirties, and him being barely legal.

reply

I think it's an individual thing. They all look a bit tired and worn down, perhaps because of the makeup and wardrobe team, or perhaps because of the cold Vancouver winters!

I think that Sarah looks like she is over 25, but Hal does look older than his 21-year-old character too.

I prefer Hal/Maggie to Ben/Maggie.

Who wants to live forever?

reply

What is ridiculous is that they expect us to believe that Matt is only 6.

reply

Yes, Maggie definitely looks the actress' real age now, which is not a bad thing at all IMO, but when they pair her with characters that are supposed to be teens and possibly one underage, it's odd ... to say the least.

Just watch the next episode with Winger's "Seventeen" playing in the background for added... Gravitas.

reply

I know I watched it tonight and thought the same thing.

The love triangle is creepy, they should have kept Ben with Deni. Instead they went the brother/sister route with those two, and then kill her off.

Why they keep killing off all of Maggie's competition, I don't know... The writers, for some reason, don't want another attractive 20-30 year old actress on the series.

reply

haha....you actually bring up a good point I haven't thought much about..strange coincidence as you might say that the show runners have found a way to kill off every attractive younger female cast member that has come along....they never last...not even Lourdes, Lexi or "Karen" were around very often before finally being gotten rid of for good...what's up with that?...

...lol...I don't 'ship anybody or care about the "love triangle", but just for kicks and shake a lot of folks up, they should have Ben and Maggie be all over each other every chance they get....it would piss Hall off and shock some fans...lol....they can pull out all the stops for the last season...lots of stuff they could do, but probably won't....

reply

Such as having Maggie tonguing Matt's cystic acne til it pops.

reply

Meh.

It's the apocalypse. They are all underfed, over-worked, sleep deprived and terrified. They should all look a lot worse than they do, and aged a lot more than they have. She looked good enough for mid 20's at the start. She looks mid 30's now but it makes sense(especially for a cancer survivor/former drug addict whom we really don't know how bad the disease was beyond "50/50").

Actually, now that I think about it, if her character was early to mid 20's at the start she'd be 30 or close by now, anyway. It's been 5 seasons and thus 4 to 6 years in their time, no?

reply

Age has nothing to do with looking better or worse. Take Lourdes, she looked good all through seasons 1 to 3. Then, she looked really sick and bad after being revealed as mole. She looked like a healthy 20something first, and then like a sick 20something, she didn't go from "22 and healthy" to "35 and sick".

Maggie looked about 25 on day 1. She has weathered a bit now. This romance with Ben is just creepy and uncomfortable. The actor who plays Maggie is 34. Even if her character is supposed to be only 25, Ben is 16. Still creepy.
