the button never mattered

even if they had found the button during the original investigation, it wouldn't have made any difference. at best it would suggest that one aspect of her story might have been true
but even if the button somehow could miraculously clear her, it still wouldn't warrant the end scene with the detective almost finding it. even if they did prove her innocent, it'd be too late. she'd still be guilty of the jailbreak and could potentially face charges as an accomplice to the other crimes he committed to break her out. pretty sure there's no statute of limitations on escaping from prison so they'd still have to stay in hiding

You guys take these movies way too literally. Think of the button as an abstraction, a symbol with philosophical consequences, if you will. Sure, it is presented as a possible piece of evidence in the movie, but this is mainly because movies need images to present a concept. But if you start thinking of the button as a form of disambiguation between the general plot of the movie and the resourceful representation of an inherent state of guilt in the subversive contemplation of this supposed piece of evidence, you get a new perspective on things, which gives the button a whole new meaning.

I feel uncomfortable pronouncing the word 'uncomfortable'. Try saying it 3 times. Uncomfortable.

I only saw the French version, was it a left button, or a right button?

yeah, if they find a button it just means there was a struggle. there was blood on her coat, an eyewitness saw her fleeing, her prints were on the murder weapon, and she had been arguing with the victim earlier that day.
