This Is A Brilliant Film!

There is not one wasted line, visual, camera angle or wasted development in this entire movie. Everything serves to either advance the plot or flesh out and develop a character. It was smart, tight and lean and superbly done. I truly think that this is the best movie of the summer. How could you not like it? It doesn't payoff prior installments or set up future ones, it’s a great film all by itself. It seems to exist almost out of time, for the simple purpose of pitting its iconic mutant anti-hero against the perfect threats. Who doesn’t like samurais, ninjas, and vicious yakuza thugs? You can still see the attempt to tie this film to events from the trilogy but it all works neatly and tightly and you really need not have seen those other films.

The Wolverine is certainly a movie that I want to see again. It's one heck of an entertaining and smart movie.

reply

I disagree. It wasn't very entertaining and is the weakest of the xmen movies.

reply

That's troll talk. There's no way even the trolls actually believe it at this point. The Wolverine is the best comic based film since Avengers and before that, Spider-Man 2.

reply

No it isn't. It is one of the least enjoyable superhero movies ever. It is not much fun and only mildly exciting. Nothing special or impressive. I assure you I am not a troll and I have above average taste im films. The Wolverine is a 6 out of 10 at best.

reply

Whilst Citizen Kane this ain't (actually that movie is way overrated imho, but I'm using it as the popular example), when comparing it against other movies of the same genre I'd say it stands head and shoulders above most.

reply

As I have noted, it's good to know most people are judging this film to be good to great.

Sometimes, people with limited taste and intellect can rally against quality cinema and the "dumb guy" induced stigma can take on a life of its own. I'm so glad The Wolverine seems to be avoiding that for the most part.

reply

Meh, I just thought it was okay. It was one of the better summer action flicks of the year, but only because this has been a very weak year. I think the script was clunky, the pacing was uneven, the tone was disjointed, and Viper was a lousy villain. Plus, most importantly, the action was terrible. The fight scenes were poorly choreographed and shot, and Logan acted illogically a few times (for instance, why not cut those strings with his claws?). The climactic action sequence was poorly handled.

As far as solo Marvel films go, I preferred Captain America, Iron Man 2 & 3 and Thor, and even those were far from great. This was a step up from The Last Stand and Origins but that's faint praise. This should've been so much better.

reply

While the summer has been weak, that is no knock against this film. Even last year, it would have ranked in the top three films of the summer.

reply

Right behind Avengers last year.

reply

Avengers and maybe Argo, Zero Dark Thirty would have been the only films to score higher than The Wolverine in all of 2012.

reply

Amen to that.

That's what the intelligent movie fan thinks at any rate.

The intelligent movie fan can think what he wants. How is agreeing with other people a sign of intelligence?

The film is fine, it has flaws. It raised a few chuckles, had emotional depth, I loved the train action sequence. The storyline was illogical.

Wolverine is a much better guardian and protector than this film suggests, even without his healing factor. If his skills were taken into account then the enemy would have had to be more cunning and that would have made for a sharper and more thrilling movie.

reply

I’m glad it did so well with the critics. Those that are being honest, loved the film. I bet a lot of the negative reviewers enjoyed the movie but couldn't "lower themselves" to praise the sequel to X-Men Origins. The writing was so good here.

Sounds like a really good movie. I was just playing the Super Nintendo Wolverine game.

Wow, for your sake, I really hope that you're just a guy who gets paid to post things like this..

I'm having trouble with a patient of mine; he's a teenage drug addict who's being molested. By me.

reply

$10 says that TwoMushrooms is mad because he's getting paid to bash this film.

reply

If I was getting paid, why would I be mad?

Or, you know, it could be the fact that this isn't a well-made movie at all...
