How woke is this?
I hear it has an all Asian cast, no white males.
shareJust like your mom
shareWhile Lefties will troll you for asking, I did bite the bullet to watch the show because I have been in the mood for a good zombie film/series, and Westerners don't make them anymore that aren't full of degenerate wokeness.
So far there is no woke preaching, but the show does have an over-arching theme about classism in South Korea, but that's been a common theme in a large portion of South Korean media for as long as I've been watching their content.
Aside from that, I think it would be faster to go through the woke checklist than to try to describe what is and isn't woke:
1 - Feminism: Ha, the females in this show act like mostly how REAL females would act in the situation of a zombie outbreak. No 40kg karate women beating up 80kg zombies. There is one competent female who is an archer, but there's also a male archer. But here the females are mostly weak, so the guys have to do almost ALL the heavy lifting. They're what you would expect of them in this situation.
2 - Racism: Thankfully, this isn't an issue since there are only Asians in this show. No worries about "muh evil White man" here.
3 - Communism: Even while the show addresses classism (like many South Korean media) it never devolves into "Capitalism is evil". The class issue also mostly relates to how needlessly padded bureaucracy and selfishness hurts people more than anything else, which isn't really woke in my opinion.
4 - LGBTQIA2S+ (Rainbow Reich): I haven't completely finished it yet, but there is no overt alphabet soup nonsense... yet. There is one sardonic & surly female student who is mean to everyone, but sort of sarcastically makes passing comments that the utilitarian and badass archer girl is "her type", (because the archers are useful). With that character it's hard to tell if she means it or if she's just being facetious; I will have to finish the season to see if it's their way to sneak in alphabet soupism or if the character is just being smarmy (I hope it's the latter).
Disgusting.
shareThey dont do woke shite in Korean movies. No forced diversity, no forced lgbthhs stuff. No petite women taking out men twice bigger then them.
Just regular people behaving like regular people. It was so refreshing to see. We almost forgot how real people act in different situations.
South Korea has a lot to teach America.
shareI dunno. The chick in Sisyphus: The Myth (2021) was pretty badass.
