I guess, I'm the only one that liked this movie

Tbh, this movie made me laugh a lot...I liked the bucky character and I liked the movie...It's not amazing, but this movie isn't meant to be awesome IMO. It's meant to make you laugh and thats what it did for me...

The scene where he goes to the macaroni commercial, had me laughing a lot.

The scene where christina ricci uses a straw as a make shift condom, that made me laugh pretty hard.

I understand, that it's the job of the average IMDB user to sit in front of their computers and analyse every movie ever made and completely hate on movies that are stupid/funny or don't live up to their standards, I get it but come on, just enjoy the movie or don't...no need to completely bash the movie. It's not like you're making a living as a movie critic (or even getting paid).

*waits for IMDB troll to come and point out my bad grammar or something small such as this to attack me with*

I just watched it and honestly I thought it was pretty funny. I mean...of course it's terrible, but that's the fun of it. I don't think a single actor in this film was trying to play it "straight", it seemed like a bunch of people having fun being stupid.

Also my expectations were literally non-existent so that probably helped.

reply

Completely agree with everything you said.
I quite liked this movie. It's not the best or funniest movie ever made, but it did have some very funny parts which made me laugh, which is the point of comedies. And no matter how bad or stupid a movie might be, as long as it makes me laugh then I'll probably like it.

I also had low expectations for this based on the rating and reviews, but I found it quite funny with a decent story, and I'd probably consider watching it again.

This film...I watched it...not having any idea on how low the rating was....and I'm glad I did.

I actually watched it with my GF and we thought it was pretty funny. I don't know who's rating these non-serious films that are meant for a strict audience...but the movie was taken completely serious as like a Boogie Nights polar opposite. It's hilarious in ways that you never see coming...literally.

The guy can't have sex.... Premature ejaculates everywhere... and yet he has a heart of gold. It's like the porn star that is not a porn star... I get if you didn't enjoy it...but honestly...this movie hits home on almost every idea it dishes out. The John Holmes character that thinks he's gods gift to women but really is a big tool.... The old director trying to make a comeback with an actual fresh idea...which really does exist today. There is REAL porn with fat dudes with tiny dicks...it's like humiliation porn. If there's a title, it exists. The movie is not as far fetched at all as most of you would think and that's what makes it so funny.

Ricci pulls of an amazing innocent girl who's obviously so hot that should be with the big dick dude but actually hates that guy...too funny.

You're 16, just admit it. You and your dorky, deluded outcast friends tried weed for the first time the other night, put this on, and tried desperately to find it hysterical because only "artsi fartsi" girl-men hate on this stuff, right? Then you and your goofy, piss-pants nerd friends started power toking some more of The Devil's Lettuce and thought it would be a riot to start a guaranteed flame war over on IMDb. Well, keep aiming low, kid.

I don't care if you're actually 50 and married or whatever-the-Christ, this is going to be the story of your IMDb thread from now on.

"It's cute when the mini-brains get angry and point their little stubby fingers, so annoyed and bitter."

More importantly, I wanna know who talks like that... "Mini-brains".

Even funnier, I guess rockguru hit the nail on the head by calling out one of the "artsi-fartsi jerk-offs. in this case, we can use the term pseudo-intellectual, as that's what most of those dim-witted commentators actually are.

But on a serious note, this film actually was funny. For those of you who want a "rich and compelling film", you can always watch RADIO with Cuba Gooding Junior. Adam Sandler et. al did what they set out to achieve: Make a satirical film which in no way is meant to be taken seriously. I really don't get how people watch these films all the way through and hate them so much. If I don't like a movie by the halfway point, i'm out. literally. I woke up at 4:30am and thought to watch something random that I knew would drive laughs. Bucky Larson was great and delivered lots of laughs as I hoped.

Afer seeing the 2.8 rating I had to come here and check out what the faceless critics had to say. Good thing I did... don't worry, fortunately i'm not a pseudo-intellectual hipster jerkoff who lives on these messageboards. Won't see me here for another 6months to a year! Good luck with your response though, I would bet there will be one within the next 3 days typed out with those keys being pounded down super fast. If you're on the starbucks wifi, just don't cause a scene.

Ohh and no worries, I don't need to insert a smiley-face to give a false sense of triumph as though I "won" online... it was a cute touch though eggbertsmith.

Bravo! Couldn't have said it better myself. This movie was no where near as bad as the rating (and most of the people here) say it is. Yes, it was a stupid concept, with a stupid plot, and stupid dialogue, but that reminds me of another Happy Madison movie everyone loves. I don't really get it.

A laugh can be a very powerful thing. Why, sometimes in life, it's the only weapon we have.

reply

I kinda liked it too. Its definitely better than the rating it has. Its pretty much on par with all Happy Madison stuff.

There is No Gene for the Human Spirit.

reply

I'm sorry, this movie is awful. As someone who enjoys the Happy Madison folks I thought this movie was dreadful. Bucky Larson makes Grandma's Boy look like Citizen Kane. I've watched a lot of crap in my life and Bucky Larson may have been the worst movie I've ever seen. And I've seen Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever.

reply

Eh I've seen lots worse than Bucky Larson. I'm not denying it's awful, but I found that kind of fun for this movie. It was just so purposefully stupid it was hard to really criticize it. It's like criticizing the people in Jackass for their movies...I mean sure they're doing completely stupid stunts...but it's also called Jackass...what do you really expect?

Honestly for me one of the worst movies ever was Max Payne...and a lot of people seemed to like that. No accounting for taste I suppose.

reply

It takes a special touch to do the whole "so dumb it's good" thing. Think "Hot Rod" with Andy Samberg.

I was hoping Bucky Larson would be close to Grandma's Boy, but it just wasn't. And the technical aspects of the movie were off as well. I know the budget was only $10M but it barely looked professional.

reply

I guess about the only positive thing I can say is that I laughed a few times. Which is more than I can say for some of the Romcoms I watch with my girlfriend. In a just world, most of those movies would be rated just as low as thing.

Don't you know how this works?

When a movie with an 'adult' theme or some other theme that is not considered prudent or 'healthy' for the public, the rating machine starts rolling. A large amount of people from American Christina groups get a notification to give the movie a bad rating.

The rating system works about the same. Great movies (usually Indie releases) about gay people or sexual themes all get x-rated and denied exposure in stores like Wall Mart. Just get yourself a copy of 'This movie is not yet rated' and you'll know what I mean.

This is why I really don't care for the imdb rating unless it has sufficient votes (and even then I have a feeling the system is influenced by imdb, maybe under pressure of those same censorship movements).

yes we are well aware of "Positive comment" stacking

I don't know if that's true, but I did notice that 44% of the ratings were a "1". That's mysteriously disproportionate. It makes me suspect those votes were less an appraisal of the film's quality and more a comment on it's tastelessness.

reply

Honestly, I started laughing at how awful this film was. I honestly didn't think a movie could be this bad. I really went into it with an open mind but I was shocked at just how terrible it was. I get how its not meant to be taken seriously but the only way I think I would have found it funny was if I had a lobotomy. That's great if you enjoyed it bro more power to you but I will never understand it. What annoys me is not the fans of films like these but the pretentious douche bags like rockguru who think everyone who didn't enjoy the movie is a mindless twat and they are pure geniuses. I definitely don't think anyone who enjoyed it is a total tard at all let's get that straight. I do, however, think you guys deserve something better.

But Christina Ricci was in it and that's always a good thing lol

"one of the funniest i have seen in a while" so you ADMIT you never get out much..

reply

Something must be wrong with me because I thought it was funny and I don't find many movies funny. I thought The Hangover was stupid and didn't laugh once but I was laughing throughout this movie. It was so weird. I like that kind of humor.
