I just saw the movie and loved it, but one thing did not make sense to me.... if you met the man of your dreams, rich and very famous, hope to get something started with him, and he invites you to his birthday party, would you BRING ALONG another girl who is younger than you, thinner than you, and way prettier than you ?? NOT ME !! OF COURSE at first sight he's gonna prefer her ! I can't believe that a smart, educated girl like Leslie would be this stupid.
I don't know I never thought that Leslie planned on it turning into anything. When Morgan started trying to catch him she didn't really seem all that upset. I don't think Leslie went to the party thinking that they were going to start dating or anything. That was just my impression.
After Scott invited her to his bday party, I think she had an ounce of maybe. Or do you say she was just happy to be in the know with a person from her fav team?? As big of a "fan" as she was, she could have known on one-on-one as she wasn't really shy at all. But, when she was talking to Morgan about the gas station incident, I don't know. I think she headed in that direction.

Leslie and Scott made a connection at the gas station. However, there are different types of NBA fans and in Leslie's case it seemed she was really excited to meet a player from her favorite NBA team. At first, I don't think she was into the romance business with him at first. At the party, things seem to change but then Morgan comes. She wasn't upset at Morgan for interrupting. I think she rolled her eyes because Morgan probably played that trick before. The true romantic feelings came out during the time she was Scott's physical therapist. So it wasn't that she was stupid. She and Scott weren't that involved before Morgan. I do think that they did share that connection at first.
Sweetpeeps, ok. I also think Scott liked Leslie as he peeped her books while they were waiting for Morgan to come downstairs. How are you going to just go in someone's house and nosy in their stuff and you don't know them?? Leslie was still in the room, he seemed mildly interested. The cookies scene was too cute.

LOL at Whedd3! ^^^^I agree! Scott and Leslie had the chemistry from the beginning but it was intention. Leslie was a die-hard fan. The first thing from her mind was getting involved with Scott McKnight. The cookies scene was so cute. Also, the sick scence was also a cute one. When Scott told Leslie "You're just right for me.", everyone just "awed".
lol, I get that thinking. But honestly, you can't live your life that way because there will *always* be someone better looking than you. It was good for him to chase Morgan at first, because it showed both of them later on how shallow he was.
because there will *always* be someone better looking than you.
Exactly. I had a gorgeous female roommate in college, and I used to deliberately take home my dates to see how they reacted to her. I don't feel like having to hide my man when he could just run into somebody else, anyway. There's always someone better out there. If he wants to be with you, then that's where he'll be.

I went to school with Leslie and Morgan. Leslie was always a sweet trusting girl. I remember in the fifth grade, Morgan forgot her lunch, so she asked the teacher if she could go to the restroom. It was raining that day and Morgan went to the coat room, got her coat, picked up Leslie's lunch, hid it under her coat and ambled out of the room. As a hallway safety I left about the same time she did, and I saw her reach into the bag and hungrily wolf down Leslie's tuna sandwich. When she emerged from the girl's room she was munching on an apple, then she balled up the brown bag and tossed it and the apple core in the trash can. When the lunch bell rang, Leslie discovered her lunch was missing. Morgan, pretending to be her concerned friend, helped her look for her missing meal. Needless to say, they never found it. I still remember Morgan saying "Who Could Do Such a Thing!". When Morgan realized I knew of her dirty trick, she balled up her fist at me and cupped it into her other hand a few times. I thought of the black eyes her big brother regularly gave out and decided to keep quiet. Leslie is an angel and Morgan is a menace.
I still think that the reason Leslie didn't really connect with Scott was because "Les"lie was basically "les"bian. I think that she hasn't met the right man yet and she's closing in on 40, is a total NBA fanatic who's memorized every stat since 1993 and looked about as comfortable in that dress as Ellen would, all point to the obvious fact she is gay. I mean she looked so uneasy when she finally kissed the man, that it was as if he was holding a .45 to her gut. I love Latifah, her comedic timing was perfect, her charasmatic face on camera lights up the scene. You look at Paula Pattons beauty whenever she appears on camera, but you are watching and waiting for Latifah's reaction and clever dialogue. The woman owns every scene she is in. But there is no getting around the fact that she is a lesbian. Same is true for Jodie Foster another great woman, great talent and probably another great lesbian to her partner. But whenever I see either of them trying to play it straight, it just doesn't work. But that doesn't mean I didn't love the movie cuz I really did, just couldn,t believe that her character was straight.
Dana [Queen Latifah] is a lesbian, and has been with her partner for several years.
Her gf is a personal trainer, & in amazing shape!
Anyway, everybody knows, she's just not "out". Like Jodie Foster, she doesn't think it's important to publicly identify as gay. Personally, I think they both should come out as they are both iconic in the entertainment business, and can help young lesbians realize that they can achieve big things no matter what their sexual predilection.
I have to agree that the chemistry with Common wasn't really there...rom either one of them. The love scenes were really stony and awkward. Probably had more to do with inexperience as an actor. Dunno, but I didn't buy that either one of them was in love with the other one.
It was a dumb thing to do, but she was a good hearted person and she was just being nice. That action too, was supposed to establish how different the two women were. If she would have neglected to invite her God sister after knowing how badly she wanted to go to the party, it would have been harder to root for Leslie to get the guy. But because she was being unselfish, and we see how she puts others first, we want her to get him in the end.
I was confused about that too, but she said she wasn't into him (yes, I know she lied). Also, I think she expected her Godsister not to go after the man that she's crushing on.
true. but she should know her Godsister isn't that of person to have concerns about someone else's feelings.
Topic: She wasn't stupid. When they first met, Leslie didn't think Scott was the man of her dreams. He was a cool ass dude who played basketball professionally. Not someone she was looking to spend her entire life with.
I just watched it on Net Flix. I could be wrong but I think the friend, Morgan, got invited to the party by some fellow gold diggers after the first game that Leslie and Morgan attended together. I guess since Morgan didn't have a job or a car Leslie gave her a ride to the party but the invite did not come from Leslie. But I think that Leslie did know or should have known that Morgan was going to be flirting with Scott when they got there.
No, Leslie brought Morgan along on her invite. her. If you go back to the conversation they had the next day in the kitchen, Morgan was telling Leslie that she had no success & would be helping Leslie paint the house. That's when Leslie showed her the invitation she got to Scott's house.
I would have skipped the birthday party altogether. I would have stayed at home and watched "The Matrix." Seems like that movie is always on some cable channel.
