Will They & Who Should Replace Ray Stevenson?

Ray Stevenson has been an absolute shining light in this series, bringing real gravitas to every scene he's in.

However, it's also been pretty sad watching him in the knowledge that he has sadly passed away far too soon.

My understanding was that this Ahsoka series, followed by the next series of the Mandalorian was set to form the groundwork for Dave Filoni's upcoming film. I presume this would cover Thrawn's return to the Star Wars galaxy and the efforts to defeat him.

Assuming Baylan Skoll isn't killed off in the next episode, I'd have thought he would have been a big part of that - possibly even facing off against Luke Skywalker at some point.

But now that the actor is gone, what will they do? I would hope that they'd recast the role but, if they did, who to? Who'd be a good replacement here?

reply

They already chose the replacement, it's Dominic Purcell
IMHO, that's a miscast because Purcell lacks the charisma of Stevenson.

Where did you read that?

Just looked him up online but can't see anything confirming that...

But yeah, he doesn't look right really, so I hope it isn't him.

Graham McTavish would be my pick. Watch a clip of him in House of the Dragon to see what I mean.

reply

Decent choice - he does look like he'd fit the part.

Funny though, you talking GoT has me thinking it's a bit of a shame they travelled all the way to another galaxy in Ahsoka only to find it looked exactly like some generic moorlands anywhere back in the old country!

reply

Yeah Graham McTavish would be my pick as well, especially from this pic

just add the hair and he'd be perfect for the role and looks close enough

Thank you for choosing an Outlander pic!!! Disappointed that the article didn't mention Dougal MacKenzie.

I have a feeling that Baylan will become a masked figure, like Vader, Mando etc, who can be played by virtually anyone.

Respect for Ray Stevenson. At the end of episode one there was a "For Ray" acknowledgement that I had to look up. I thought at first it was Ray Park.

Ray Stevenson in my opinion was the best part of this show. He brought so much presence and believabilty and was downright awesome. The show, aside from Ray Stevenson has extremely weak and poor casting. The best characters are Ray's and the General and the X-Wing Commander. The rest are forgetable and awkward shoehorns into Star Wars universe.

I actually thought he was Gerald Butler (this is Sparta!)

My vote would be Gerald Butler.

I can't get past Gerard Butler's teeth.

I enjoy watching him in one of his mindless action vehicles like those "... Has Fallen" numbers or Greenland, say but I'd be too conscious of the fact he's Gerard Butler to feel immersed in it if he was cast.

I've said this elsewhere but he just seems like he's got too many teeth for his mouth. Every time he's getting a line out, it's like some struggle for him to say the lines. It's weird...

Totally agree with this:-

He was superb.

Stevenson died on 21 May 2023, four days before his 59th birthday. No cause of death has been revealed, but he was reportedly hospitalized while on set filming Cassino in Ischia on the Italian island of Ischia. Stevenson's role in Cassino in Ischia was taken over by Dominic Purcell.

The first episode of Ahsoka, released just over three months after Stevenson's death on 22 August 2023, includes a dedication to him: "For our friend, Ray"

Damn, no cause of death too. One of the surviving General's from the fall of the Jedi Order.
