Robin...

What's the point of revealing Robin at the end and not go anywhere with it?

reply

Some kind of misguided fanservice? One of the things that bugged me most of all about that reveal was that he said it'd be under his real name, and I was like, "Oh! Dick Grayson! He's Dick Grayson! Awesome!" And then he just goes, "Robin", and I thought, "Oh, so it's fanservice without actually making the reference."

It was just thrown in there for no good purpose (as you point out) and they didn't even do the lame little wink well. That whole sub-plot was bungled from beginning ("I just kinda 'know' you're Batman," "Oh, you got me. With no evidence or real conversation about it and barely knowing who you are, I will admit that I'm Batman.") to end ("My name...is Robin. Not Dick Grayson, some people might not get that reference. So, definitely Robin. Does that mean something to you, fans? No? Why not!?")

reply

It was just a nod of being the sidekick to Batman without actually being one.

reply

Yeah, but they pulled the punch. They went for a little gift for fans, but they didn't even do that. That's what bugged me, was the half-measure.

reply

It was just a shout out, that’s all and it’s all we needed. And in a way Blake is kind of a Robin like character, sort of.

reply

Wasn't the Joker card at the end of Begins supposed to be a nod also at first?

reply

Who knows? At the time I doubt Nolan was even thinking about a sequel, he was probably just showing that Batman has now become the Batman character we are all familiar with, in other words: Batman has begun.

reply

Obviously there was supposed to be a sequel to this but it never was made. Probably because this movie bombed compared to the 1st 2 that Nolan made

reply

Uhhhh this was the highest grossing out of the entire trilogy. Even critical opinion is better than Batman Begins. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Nolan said even before this came out that there wouldn’t be a sequel.

reply

Yes and Rocky 4 was the highest grossing Rocky movie. Its all because of the strong previous entry in the series. This was the weakest Batman movie of the Nolan ones.

reply

You said that TDKR bombed compared to the first two. It didn't, it was the highest grossing and it's critical data is better than Batman Begins, it also has a higher spot on IMDB Top 250, so what the hell are you basing your assertion on? If it's just your own subjective opinion that's fine but don't say it "bombed compared to the 1st 2" because that is not factually accurate.

reply

It was a movie that was very difficult to understand

reply

I’m sorry you aren’t smart enough for it, but given your posting record it makes sense.

reply

Michael Keatons Batman and the ones in the 90s that followed were a lot easier to follow

reply

I read that Nolan did not plan a sequel.

reply

I hated it too. Christian Bale hates Robin and wouldn't be in an adaptation that has him.

reply

Not go anywhere? Bruce left him the GPS coordinates of the Batcave. Clearly he was going to take over Batman's role as Gotham's protector. Maybe as Batman? Or Nightwing? I doubt he'd dress like Robin.

reply

It was just a nod to the character.
