That Carmen character got what she deserved, she was warned several times to stay away from that site but her selfish ambitions got her and her friend killed, luckily her boyfriend survived, which was cool to see, glad to see whomever made this movie go against the grain and have someone other than a female be the lone survivor.

I think that’s why the movie went with the X-Men guy as the survivor. He was one against the whole trip, he was the one who repeatedly told them to leave, he was the one who didn’t go into the fog to see the statue, and he was the one who told Carmen when Lydia appears in the forest, “Leave it alone. Let’s just go”

The dumb characters died. The smart one lived. Good plot decision
