Why don't blow up or destroy the statue?
or have someone run in with dynamite and avoid looking at it.

shareThis thread is great. What else should they try MartinTeller?

My impression was that it wasn't just a matter of having looked at the statue, but that once they'd crossed into "the curse" itself they were doomed.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
I think if they blew up or otherwise destroyed it there would actually be no movie.
I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!
I thought the same thing. Why not have the air force carpet bomb the mist or have the army hit the area with a massive volley of heavy artillery?
shareI assumed that it couldn't be destroyed, that they tried and failed. That's just my opinion though.
shareGiven that the statue could apparently move, at least it's head, if it got blown up, it would probably just rebuild itself.
And for all we know, the mist might be some kind of magical/mystical barrier to attack, like a star trek type shield :P
may be, while the area was cursed, it was also a vessel that allowed to trap the demon,... destroying it would just unleash it.
shareAccording Henryk's line at about 1:20 of 1:24, "This is curse. Left here on our land from long ago. It cannot be undone." From this and the earlier line from Carmen-as-the-demon about having "tasted the flesh and blood of angels", I get the impression that "the curse" is of the primordial, built-into-the-nature-of-creation-by-God, kind, proof against guns, hammers, and explosives.
shareThe line was taste the flesh and blood of fallen angels. At first I thought the statue was somehow related to a fallen angel aka demon but I'm not so sure now. Interesting little movie. Wish there had been more of an explanation at the end.

What makes you think they haven't tried?
