The things I actually liked in this movie
Everyone dissing this, but there are some great moments, even compared to the original (sorry for the grammar, not a native English speaker here). But I also mention what I didn't like and/or could have been improved.
Relationship of Eric & Shelley
In the original, we hardly know anything about them. They have this almost Disney movie-like happy relationship, cooking together, playing with cat, dancing in an empty field etc. with no background story. New movie gives us this, even though it's too long and dragged, we have two f*cked-up people who can see themselves in each other and slowly build a loving relationship. It also has its up and downs (like Eric starting to doubt Shelley), not just being happy all the time (which is unrealistic).
On the other hand, original Eric still had much more pain and revenge on his face (even though we saw less background story), new Eric just stares blankly most of the time and assumes he has to get a revenge.
Brutality
Original movie has its brutal moments, but Eric is still depicted as a hero and graphic violence is minimized. In the comics, he's a psychopatic antihero, just like Skarsgard's Eric. But new-Eric mostly kills unnamed henchmen (most of them look like random guys just doing their job and had nothing to do with Eric's and Shelley's death).
There are no memorable henchmen and sub-bosses, either. Instead of the awesome Top Dollar, we have a random old dude supposed to be some kind of demon.
The ending
Avoiding the repetition of the ending of original movie (and sequels) was a nice touch. It's not just Eric kills everyone with ease, then Crow injures, he lost his superpower and still manage to win.
Movie also extends the Crow mithology (but adding some confusing and/or contradicting things here).
The visuals
The movie universe looks realistic, it's not some almost empty CGI-city with raining all the time and almost no random citizens. We got corrupt cops, members from underground and city still looks dark and rotten but not in an exaggerated, over the top way.
The protagonist
As I mentioned, he really looks like a f*cked up antihero. His injuries are more realistic (OK, 30 years ago CGI wasn't as good as today...), his design is also new, not just a copy of the original (not to mention the continuity error from the original with duct tape randomly appearing on his clothes).
I also like the fact that he fights in a very raw and primitive way. In the original, he somehow becomes a martial artist after death.
What I didn't like that he can still feel pain and he can injure himself, and those injuries also heel. Why not follow the comics here?
