The smart thing about The Pope’s Exorcist is that the production budget was quite low, reportedly just $18 million. This set the horror movie up for success, allowing it to become profitable in theaters after just one week of release. The same can’t be said about Universal’s Renfield, which reportedly cost $65 million and has thus far made just $17.9 million.
Screen Gems may very well have a hit franchise on their hands with The Pope’s Exorcist, and there’s certainly no shortage of tales that can be pulled from Father Gabriele Amorth’s legendary career as a high profile exorcist. The Italian priest is reported to have performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican, so needless to say the sky is the limit here.
Unless the rainbow alphabet commies try to cancel it, or anything else related to Christianity because it correctly says that their 'persuasion' is wrong.
I enjoyed this movie, and I’d be interested in a sequel. The one issue is that we know Russell Crowe’s character won’t die. The end of this movie had an epigraph that says his character died in 2016. So that removed a bit of suspense from sequels, knowing he’s not really in danger
The other option might have the younger priest in this movie become the focus? But I think most people will push back because Crowe’s character is more charming and an easier fan-favorite
True - but it seems to me like this film, despite stating the year, is still very fictional. I say that because it's based on a real character, but exorcisms are nothing like the exorcisms you see on TV.
