"he came from nothing"???

What a lame American dream bullshit angle is this?

Is THAT what makes Napoleon outstanding? His rags to riches story, like a Slumdog Millionaire or The Pursuit of Happyness?

They should get decent writers with a bit of culture, not morons with no knowledge of history.
Can only hope this is just the idiot writing the tagline, and the movie is actually NOT about that.

It's good to write with a neanderthal, I like to have a DNA advantage in an argument.

reply

Please utilize your superior Homo sapiens DNA to realize it is a catchy statement.

I've seen this expression before. It is something an adman would write to sell tickets.

"He came from nothing."

No need to get worked up about it brah. Good for sales.

reply

Hey, this guy is one of the greatest military leaders in history, and he contributed to shape the modern civilization with his administrative innovations.
"He came from nothing", which is also quite an erroneous statement, has got zero to do with his importance.

Like I said, it sounds written by an utterly ignorant adman.

reply

they knew this "modern audience" need flashy lines like"HE CAME FROM NOTHING" because their frontal cortex is so fried from consuming tiktok or any type of short video/media form, that they can barely focus on anything that runs longer than 30 seconds.

reply

That sounds accurate.

I would add, the tagline writer is part of that fried frontal cortex crowd.
He/she should find a more suitable job, like picking up tin cans on the streets for quarters.

reply

"He came from nothing. He conquered everything."

A simple pitch. Run a search for "He came from nothing." It is not original. I've seen it before. It is not, however, hackneyed or a meme. So it is a good line imo.

In this case it is inaccurate if taken literally. Napoleon Bonaparte did not come from poverty. He descended from Italian (not French) nobility. So, in a sense, you could say he "came from nothing" if you consider what he accomplished in his lifetime.

Perhaps you are looking at this too analytically. Sales pitch brah.

reply

Napoleon was descended from nobility and, I believe, grew up in his family’s ancestral mansion. The tagline is idiotic.

reply

Precisely

reply

He was the poorest student at the school, and basically there on a scholarship.

Compared to those around him, he was a country bumpkin from the colonies with an italian accent.

No one comes from literally nothing, he went from being a child in a middle class family to conquering the vast majority of the European continent.

reply

He came from high society. He conquered nothing.

reply

Ahah, that sounds more insightful to his life.
