Julianna Moore was SOOOOOO good

This board is fairly depressing...I'm too afraid to go to page 2 cuz all the threads here are so negative.

Anyway, I thought her accent was excellent for an Englishwoman who's spent so much time in America, and I just loved everything about her performance. The movie shows up all the time on Showtime and I literally just rewatch it just to see her again (and of course that amazing reaction Colin Firth does to hearing Jim died in the beginning). AHhh she's just so electric and charismatic! I can't believe some people think she was miscast. Was she too real? I love when she screams "Oh this was such fun!" and oh everything. I loved everything about it!

Anyone agree?

I love Julianne Moore but I thought she was miscast in this film. She is a wonderful actress who has a tendency to overplay certain roles (Magnolia is another where she didn't work for me). In A Single Man, I never for a moment bought the idea that she and Firth were lifelong friends - she seemed like someone who would get the hell away from him and head towards someone with a bit more life in him.

Firth on the other hand was excellent - and he's an actor I had never particularly cared for prior to this film. Tom Ford's posey direction is my major gripe with it, but Moore is a mark against it too.
