Christian Spotlight

I sometimes go on this website called Christian Spotlight on the movies site everytime when I felt the need to have a laugh (Christian extremists say the most stupid but funny *beep* when it comes to movies).

I went to check out what they say about Kung Fu Panda 2 out of curiousity, and I felt the need to copy and past this lol.

here it is

Neutral—I really enjoyed the middle part of this movie. The first and last parts were heavily, I repeat, heavily into the new age belief of “inner peace,” which the movie shows can come from many sources (meditation being one of them, as well as finding your true self). By the end of the movie, Po finds inner peace by finding out about his past and where he came from.

There are very touching parts about adoption, but it doesn’t make up for the whole “inner peace” thing, imo. A Christian parent simply cannot watch this movie with their kids, without feeling the strong urge to talk to their kids about where real inner peace comes from. As soon as we got home from this movie, I picked up the Bible and showed my 7 year old a couple verses that show that real peace comes from knowing God and that Jesus is the only one who can give us lasting inner peace. The first Kung Fu Panda was very light on the new age beliefs, but this one really amped it up a lot. Makes me wonder if that was their intention. Probably would not have taken my kids if I knew it would be like this, but they did enjoy it, and we got a lot of laughs out of it, when it wasn’t busy shoving “inner peace” down our throats.

Thanks for mentioning this website, I've been looking for a new 'comedy' website recently

There's something that doesn't make sense. Let's go and poke it with a stick!

I'd like to bring up one key point here - if yours or a child's faith can be swayed by a cartoon, then perhaps it is not as strong as you think.

On that same note, let me enter the verbal fray with pointing out that I am neither pro-religion nor atheist, but I AM vehemently against the religious indoctrination of youth. I mean let's face facts here...the kids DO get a watered down version of the bible here...would you let them sign a contract that was 'condensed' to a paragraph for their convenience yet still carried the weight of the original/ That's what happens to the kids...they get spoon-fed the better parts to give them faith and joy with a little 'light' punishment sprinkled in on top to keep them in line. They don't get the full/raw version here - I bet I could walk into a hundred random Sunday schools and youth groups and all could speak about Lot's wife...but not of his daughters... Likewise, if the only education that they receive on other religions is intolerant propaganda from the Christian side of things, these physical wars and flame wars are damned to repeat themselves into perpetuity.

My kids can sample religion when young - if they WANT to go to an adult church service, fine... as they get older, they will have questions about Christianity and others and we shall explore the answers together as I have made my own journey one of study and understanding of different faiths/belief structures.

I agree with the OP in that it is very funny to read the extremist views on things - one such site, I remember, tore Passion of the Christ a new one and that was (I assumed) a CHRISTIAN film. Never know what drives some people to constantly war with the rest of humanity, especially when they belong to religions of 'peace'...lol

I think her calling something older than christianity "New Ages beliefs" is hilarious.

Very few Christians are very un god like in their ways or views. The crusades were proof Christians are racists and want to destroy anything or anyone they don't like or understand. A lot of regions including Christians use meditation, it is a form of prayer for peace.

The woman poster on the "christian" website wasn't really reviewing "Kung Fu Panda II", folks - She was reciting the dogma, showing off her obedience to the other christians, bad-mouthing the heathens and sucking up to her peers.

In other words, what most of the "faithful" are constantly doing - Neither increasing their knowledge, or examining their souls, but plain old going through the motions, acting "moral" while looking for the approval of the rest of the herd.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

from that so called review-
a) about new age inner peace with regards to Taoism ;
Both Taoism (and Buddhism) pre-date Christianity.

b) "...if a little overly action oriented."
from a movie with the word kung fu in it? Who knew! It even had JC....VD in it! And JC...(Jacky)...what's with all the action stars! ^^

Some people! btw I'm Catholic (practising).

Actually what I laugh at are people who take one so-called Christian's views and opinions and think those are the views of all Christians.

I am a Christian too and I strongly disagree.

I don't have a problem with you not agreeing with that inner peace thing, but some people hold this belief and it doesn't seem right that you find their views offensive.

Also, that doesn't mean that you can't find peace in God as well, why can't the two work together?

It's good for children to be exposed to different beliefs and ideologies and people can interpret this as they like. It's about finding happiness in yourself and your beliefs.

I actually believe that it can be a Christian message as well.
Not judging others, in the Bible there are stories of people finding their own peace through Jesus, but I believe that it basically saying that Jesus wants people to have inner peace and in the Bible, he happened to be the person who helped them find it.

I found it a brilliant movie with fantastic morals that I would be more than willing to take on.
