The scene where Frank calls Jo Hoffa has to be one of De Niro's finest and most intense acting moments
So we all know that Mr. De Niro is an outstanding actor - I feel like his performance in this film is one of his best pieces of work ever. I gotta say though, the scene towards the end when Frank goes to call Jo Hoffa about Jimmy "going missing" has to be (in my opinion) his best acting work yet. The way he is stumbling over his words and speaking very quietly and barely able to put a full sentence together really gave me chills.
We are used to seeing De Niro's characters kill in cold blood, regardless of the film's genre or what type of character he is portraying. Yet in this scene, De Niro really nails it perfectly - that level of vulnerability that Frank has from this point all to the end of the film really adds big time to the story and characters.
