Heartbreaking scene

When they pick up Hoffa and him and Frank hug when he gets into the car, Frank looked like he didn’t want to ever let go.

Also how happy they were to see each other even though we can see Frank is on the verge of falling apart.

Perfect acting from De Niro and Pacino.

Nope. The lack of genuine emotion is what set Frank apart as a good hitman. The struggle you see is pure frontal lobe work, and DeNiro brought that well. He wants to feel but cannot. That's part of the tragedy.

reply

I disagree, he definitely cared about Hoffa, the last thing he wanted was for him to have to be killed he continuously tried to save Hoffa from what ultimately happened.

The whole sequence from getting on the plane till the wedding scene you could tell Frank was struggling internally with what he was about to have to do.

reply

Hmm I found that unconvincing. I wanted him to have trouble but all I saw was a hitman.

reply

Wow you must of not of watched the movie especially when he’s older and he says “who makes that call”. Please go rewatch it before saying nonsense.

reply

Some hindsight regrets (that were deduced socially desirable answers and not heartfelt!) make you believe he wasn't lacking empathy? He didn't even comprehend why his daughter didn't want to speak to him! You project too much in his demeanor preceding the murder. It looked more like someone struggling with an action because it "wasn't the right thing to do" and not because he felt emotionally attached to another human being.
Stop with the nonsense about having to rewatch, please. It's ok to have a different take on things.

As brutal as that scene was, for me, the real heart-smasher is when he goes to the bank, hobbling around on those crutches, and his daughter just flips the card and walks away. That's a powerful hammer-blow just driving home everything he's lost for his sins.

reply

Also, no emotion but disappointment and inability to empathize. The dude was a sociopath.

You are reported for being dumb.

reply

Yeah, there were a few heartbreaking scenes, I thought. I liked De'Niro's character and he was a tragic figure.
