The B word and the disrespect shown on this board

What is wrong with some of you males these days referring to women as bitches. Have you know damn respect for women?

Why is Vicki, a beautiful black woman, referred to as a Bitch by several posters? Yes, husband and wives do argue, as seen in this film, yet all these chauvinistic males wish to degrade this female character? He is an ass too, why blame only the woman? Sometimes the way men act set a woman to run her mouth.

Stop that crap. A woman can't have a voice without being called a bitch? Stop that nonsense. Most of you probably use your right hand as a date.

What is "know respect"? Is it, like, respect for how much someone knows? Or is it knowing how much they respect something?

"My brain rebelled, and insisted on applying logic where it was not welcome."

Maybe it's because she WAS a nagging bitch? Within the first 13 minutes of the movie I was hoping she'd be the first to die. Yes, couples do fight, but she went uber psycho bitch within the first few minutes. You want to say he acted in a way that set her to run her mouth? She was nagging right off the bat constantly befor he barely got a word in..

This is the modern age and people are entitled to call it as they see it, and apparently the greater majority other than yourself found her to be a nagging bitch.

PS. Thats the second time I saw you reference the "use your right hand" bit. Was it necessary to start a thread just to get that opinion heard?

PPS. I KNOW it's not right to have NO respect for women, but we are talking about a fictional character and not the person playing said character. You should KNOW the difference.

reply

Why bring Vicki's race into it at all? Is this really a "woman" issue? In any case, I agree that "bitch" is a disrespectful term. I much prefer "petulant shrew."

reply

OP said it. There isn´t respect or proper manner to treat people these days anymore.

This is the modern age and people are entitled to call it as they see it, and apparently the greater majority other than yourself found her to be a nagging bitch

Yeah, this is the modern world where respect, education, and chivalry towards women doesn´t exist anymore, you are the example.
Now it seems we are all "bitches", with no differences (There is a lot of a lot of real bitches *beep* around especially on the internet) and I don´t see Vicky in this film is a Bitch at all, that how YOU see her.

Well, basically all the idots we can see all around the internet, it´s our today´s youth

Ah, I thought the world was going ahead, evolution, but each day I see it´s going BACKWARDS.

Do you recognize my voice...?

reply

I called the character being played a nagging bitch. I did not refer to the actress or the OP as a bitch.

I have respect, but I also have an opinion. I respect OP's opinion, but I still have my own. You are showing less respect than I by bashing my opinion. I stated I disagreed with her opinion, but I didn't stoop to calling people idiots who didn't share mine.

Disliking a character in a movie in no way reflects ones level of respect, education or chivalry towards women.

I'm nearly 30 myself so 'today's youth' has nothing to do with my OPINION of a fictional character.

reply

Dude im a girl, and I think Vicki the character was a b****. u just wanted to yell, shut the *beep* up already!!

reply

Thank you! It's not about guys being disrespectful, the character was just a nagging b****. Gender does not come into play when you are describing someones actions or acting...

Correction:

The character really wasn't a nagging bitch, she served the "rational mind" aspect.

Burt, the town is empty, let's keep on driving. Burt, there's a dead guy here, let's keep on driving. Burt there's murderous children in there let's get the hell out of here!!! Burt, I've been killed by pagen children... and now they'll get you... bet you wish you had listened to me now.

Logical Mind is ALWAYS that "nagging" part; (and honestly, the movie began with her being BORED. Like anyone would be on a long road trip).

Burt is the classic "testosterone" character, ignoring all rational thought and charging forward to his inevitable destruction. Given that if Burt had even ONCE listened to Vicki and simply Drove Away, both of them would still be alive; her "nagging" seems justified.

Now, take a moment and reverse the roles. Vicki is now the "Let's have an adventure Burt. No Burt, I wanna go inside the church, you can wait in the car so some kids can kill you at a dramatic moment."

People just have a low level of respect for women (even women themselves) and hence, even though Burt was extremely emotionally detached, cared more about his adventure than Vicki, and got them both killed... focus on the WOMAN.

reply

We must have watched different movies, because noone hated her for being rational, they hated her for being a nagging bitch.

There is no subliminal characterization taking place here, and no lack of respect for a particular gender either.

If I go into a garden and need a rake, do I just say "bring the tool" or do I say "bring the rake"? Both would be correct but 1 is more applicable. Just because she AT TIMES is the voice of reason doesn't change anything.... a rake is a rake and a nagging bitch is a nagging bitch no matter if it is trying to serve more purpose or not.

reply

Vicki wanted to dump the body, leave evidence behind, and go on without acknowledging what had happened. Burt wanted to find someone to report the incident to and to present the evidence to.

Enough nagging and you eventually get tuned out - which is what ended up happening to Vicki. Something like the boy who cried wolf.

And my daughter called Vicki a bitch within the first five minutes.

reply

Yeah but did you not notice how fetching she looked in that bathrobe, I mean dress? Yowza!

reply

But doesn't it make you cringe just a little bit that your daughter used the word "bitch", even if it might fit?

You are a rare man indeed. In intelligent observation on an IMDB thread. Kudos for attempting to bring a little enlightenment to the conversation.

I had a much longer rant here but decided to delete it after reading the very last remark at the end of this thread. This "fluff-person" has decided to share with us his knowledge that we can thank the Black culture specifically Black Rap and Hip-Hop for saturating our society with the word.

I decided to Google the origins of the current popular use of the topic of our discussion and this is what I found and thought some of you might enjoy reading it. The author of the essay is Clare Bayley who wrote it for a class on "Feminist Political Thought" at MIT. Please don't let the course title keep you from reading her paper.

She was a total BITCH. I was waiting for her to be slapped. She was a crazy BITCH.

As a female I approve the use of this word in referring to her

That is the most awesome reply I have read in months 

As a female too I second your approval of the use of this word.

You will notice that the first few definition are not gender specific. They are using slang, most of which was to put emphasis on the character's excessive nagging and/or complaining.

Personally, I believe their relationship was over the top. It was so bad that I was just glad one of them died so it would end. Furthermore, she honestly didn't seem resonable at all. No one in the movie did. The little boy trying to warn her husband was the most reasonable character, in my opinion. If he had listened to her and kept driving, they would have lived. That doesn't mean she is reasonable. She was actually very frantic, espeically in her attempts to insult her husband.

Anyways, you may be a lot happier if you calmed down and didn't take offense so quickly.

reply

She's not a bitch, I'll agree. In fact she was rather nice in person!
