38 year old Male here.. Just watched it...

... I didn't bother going to the cinema because of all the negative reviews and general hate for it.. I thought it must be really bad to generate THAT much animosity towards it.

Like I said I am a 38 year old male with extremely fond memories of the first 2 films. the first one in particular was one of the first cinema experiences I ever had as a child of the 80s..

That all being said. I ENJOYED THIS FILM. not as much as the originals but a lot more than I ever expected to judging by all the negativity. the story is probably as good as it gets for this generation of kids as far as summer blockbuster films go. The humour is actually pretty funny for the most part. the many many references and general throwbacks to the originals are fun.

I don't get the hate.. I really don't... its fun and entertaining for what it is... easily a high 6 out of 10.. the general concensus I seem to get from fellow males around my age is that they are offended that the roles are taken by 4 women and its not on par with the originals... so what to both I say. I enjoyed the fresh take by the 4 women.. the blonde girl was particularly interesting and amusing and I never for a second expected this to be as good or even close to the original film... but as it is on its own.. an entertaining and enjoyable film.. people need to stop comparing to the original.. I guarantee even if 4 guys were in the roles it still would have paled to the original anyway.

Oh dear, I haven't been on the website for a long time, but it seems like Moo hasn't learned. Yet another board he spends 100% of his time on. He's been doing this for probably 10 years and beyond, whoever it is, they are the most pathetic slice of turd I think I've ever seen on the internet (I think the first board I noticed him on was Terminator Salvation). They clearly have no job, possibly infirmed and unable to leave the house, a mental disorder that just leaves others around him without any sympathy, but rather a bad taste that he is simply an obnoxious cünt who should be smothered to death with a pillow.

Simply put, whether he is sincere in his opinions or a troll, it is conclusive either way that he has no life. He cannot escape that fact.

Just to say, I wasn't impressed with the film. I just thought it wasn't funny, the only scene I found mildly amusing was when in the Mayor's office... Kevin was ok too. Strange, because I find the rest of the cast good in nearly everything else they do, it just didn't work for me.

Kevin was ok too

And there it is, you've given us all we need to hear 😀

reply

Sorry, he gave me a mild chuckle. He's not like a classic comedy character or anything.

If you're going to disregard someones opinion entirely on that basis, well, you've told us all we need to know too really.

Cheerio.

reply

I agree. It is good for what it is. People are wayyyy too serious about it.

Just wanted to say I appreciate your review. I have also heard so many bad reviews & remarks about it. Having watched the first two when they first come out in theaters, I was reluctant to watch an all woman cast.... I'm female, I just want something close to the same. Having watched the new trailer just now & reading you post I have decided to watch it after all. :O) I will let you know how it went.

It's All for love. L O V E... Love!!!

^ You hear that slinky, skoivu16, and mootown?

That's called word of mouth.

It was rather obvious that after this movie got rated artificially low, the positive word of mouth would bolster viewers.

It was a fun movie. The haters complaining about it are humorless douches that take comedy too seriously.

Let's reboot Firefly and make Mal and Jayne and Wash all women 

Would Zoë, Kaylee, River and Inara become men?

reply

yes and they are incompetent dumbasses or irredeemable *beep*

reply

I'd love a firefly reboot. Regardless of gender swaps. It's one of the best Sci-fi shows of all time.

Okay, take firefly, dumb it down by a ton. Gender swap it and dumbed down the men or make them into irredeemable ass holes. Fill it with pop cultural references, common slang and toilet humor.

reply

Of course you would. Gee, I wonder if it would suck or not lol good god what an idiot. Let's reboot Casablanca, Gone with the Wind and Godfather! After all they're stock full of male patriarchy blah blah blah. Your movie failed and your entire existence is meaningless Hershey  You're about as meaningful as a fart in a wind storm.

reply

Funny, the humor is horrid and some of the most stupidest infantile comedy there is. Cringeworthy and unfunny. The characters are bigoted clichés and the plot sucks and full of inaccuracies.

reply

If four guys were in the roles the movie would've got the zero attention it deserves. Some franchises are better left in the past.

reply

Same here, I'm 38 and just watched it. I don't understand the hate. It was very funny and while not perfect its heart was in the right place.

reply

A wasn't funny

B did not had heart. Heart burn definitely, but no heart.

Your lack of basic punctuation has already allowed me to form an opinion of the person I am dealing with.

I don't get the hate.. I really don't...

This is very common, investigate the leaked Sony emails and you'll find out just who Sony screwed over to get this movie made, then watch how the stars, director and even head of Sony revelled in bigotry to advertise the movie and you'll find out who they attacked to sell it.

The movie might be good, it might be bad, but it's important that Sony learns that too many people are unwilling to help fund a hate campaign just to find out.

You need to hang out with different people.

Nobody is offended women are playing the parts. It's just that they made this such a big deal about it being 4 women and if you don't just love love love it you are an awful person who hates womyn and a bunch of nonsense.

And, another thing, most of the women cast are unlikeable.

People just want to be entertained, not have a political agenda shoved down their throats.

The general consensus I was referring to was in regards to public opinion and media reviews.... not that of personal friends lol!
