38 year old Male here.. Just watched it...

... I didn't bother going to the cinema because of all the negative reviews and general hate for it.. I thought it must be really bad to generate THAT much animosity towards it.

Like I said I am a 38 year old male with extremely fond memories of the first 2 films. the first one in particular was one of the first cinema experiences I ever had as a child of the 80s..

That all being said. I ENJOYED THIS FILM. not as much as the originals but a lot more than I ever expected to judging by all the negativity. the story is probably as good as it gets for this generation of kids as far as summer blockbuster films go. The humour is actually pretty funny for the most part. the many many references and general throwbacks to the originals are fun.

I don't get the hate.. I really don't... its fun and entertaining for what it is... easily a high 6 out of 10.. the general concensus I seem to get from fellow males around my age is that they are offended that the roles are taken by 4 women and its not on par with the originals... so what to both I say. I enjoyed the fresh take by the 4 women.. the blonde girl was particularly interesting and amusing and I never for a second expected this to be as good or even close to the original film... but as it is on its own.. an entertaining and enjoyable film.. people need to stop comparing to the original.. I guarantee even if 4 guys were in the roles it still would have paled to the original anyway.

I agree with you Jay. The movie was surprisingly good given all the negativity that surrounded it. Personally, I think Melissa McCarthy is a very funny woman, and I like Wiig a lot too, so it wasn't that shocking that they were good. But the movie as a whole was better than I expected. 6/10 from me.

What was "fresh" about this bland rehash? Seriously.

Feminism is cancer.

I am 39, just watched it...didn't waste a cinema trip on it due to the bad reviews and the trailer looked rubbish...

I thought the film was terrible. I gave it a 4/10.

Not a single laugh, the plot was stupid and the last third of the film was just a boring cgi cartoon.

I am a big fan of the original film, and like yourself its one of the first films I remember seeing at the cinema...and this film is such a turd in comparison. I mean where was Zuul and the cool ancient 'lore'. The acting and even most of the special effects were better in the original...

SO glad I didn't waste my time on a cinema trip for this film, it was yet another pointless remake moneygrab that pales in comparison to the superior original...I mean when did references to better films honestly make a bad film enjoyable?

As far as the roles being women...I really don't care, there are plenty of funny women out there. Bridesmaids was decent, Spy was very good, with some of the same actors and film makers, and a good film is a good film no matter what gender the main characters are...and this film was not a good film.

people need to stop comparing to the original.. I guarantee even if 4 guys were in the roles it still would have paled to the original anyway.

I disagree, a film based on a book or play or comics series etc can do their own thing, doesn't matter what films went before...but Ghostbusters was an original film and a remake of an original film as loved as Ghostbusters will rightly have much comparisons made, and this remake fails utterly...I agree if it had 4 men in the main roles it still would have sucked.

Although I liked the remake better than a lot of folks, I 100% agree with this statement.

I can't tell if you're serious or not.

The teens just like something to hate on, gives them something to do after school, (other than cyber bully their classmates) they'll soon find another new film to circle round.

The remade was typical of modern films, polished, bright and colourful and embellished, it was Ghostbusters with the volume turned up basically. But it was good fun, been wanted to see more GB movies for years and it was worth it. But also us oldies were not the target audience, the kids seem to be enjoying it the most.

reply

Keep telling yourself that ;-) There are millions upon millions of 'teens' and old folks AND women across the country and across the world - so why did this FLOP the way it did? Why didn't they show up?

Hmmm...maybe a few hundred million people were cyberbullied into not seeing it 

Deadpool a 5

And you call yourself a man? 

Also why does everybody refer to her as "the blonde girl"? I noticed that with some of those possibly fake 5 Star Reviews on Amazon.com too...everybody who likes this movie, can't even remember the name of the character they like the most. Very suspicious.

wtf is GINO? and yes. clearly I am not a man because I have a horrible habit of watching car crash wwe no matter how awful it is and I didn't enjoy deadpool all that much with its 1 million juvenile dick jokes... the deadpool game on xbox 360 had smarter and funnier humour than the film.

Anyways... how sad does one have to be to go look up another poster and their history.. who the hell does that anyway? too much time on your hands i'd say..

reply

Juvenile dick jokes? As opposed to the sophisticated humor of queef jokes and shooting ghosts in the balls jokes in Ghostbusters? You are monumentally stupid.

reply

I did say in my original post the humour was funny 'for the most part'.. some of it was damn stupid i'm not denying that.

reply

What exactly was the GOOD humor in it? The Kevin character? Kate McKinnon's bizarrely over the top weird-girl gag? Ugh.

reply

I quite enjoyed kate mckinnons character overall actually.. more than the rest.. the black girls stereotype role was the most annoying I found.

Anyway.. I am simply saying the film was better than I had expected it to be.. I don't think id ever watch it again to be honest.. but I went in thinking it was going to complete garbage on par with the likes of independence day 2 or suicide squad.. it wasn't and I was pleasantly surprised.

reply

Godspeed. Enjoy all the wonton-to-soup-ratio jokes.

Yeah because those 20 seconds are such a massive amount of time. Lol.
What's pathetic about it? You learn more about a person that way, you can see if somebody's a troll, schill or just an idiot with horrendous taste.

And as i said, your text sound suspiciously like those "An Amazon Customer" 5 Star Reviews for the Blu Ray that quickly popped up and clearly are paid by Sony Reviews.

Are you also going to tell us who're you're dating, the size of your dick, where you live and what kind of car you drive (or don't)?

Point being, no one cares about one's age as that is irrelevant. An opinion is formed upon that, an opinion, not if the person is younger or older.

reply

2 year old more like.
