I didn't like the trailer at all, but heard only positive things about the film, and went in with high hopes. Moreover, I was skeptical of anyone stepping into the Fletch role after Chevy Chase, but Hamm is perfect, and so is the film. It's clever, hilarious, unrelentingly paced, and keeps the audience guessing until the very end. This is about as well-executed a crime caper/comedy film as there is, and it makes me realize how few such films are being made anymore. I wish the studio would put some effort into publicizing this, because we need more films like this.

I think you wrote that you hated it, but I enjoyed it. In many ways I find it superior to the original. Fletch played it more straight, with moments of Chase's over the top humor, Where Fletch Lives came up short in comparison was its over-reliance on those bits.

I rented "Fletch 2" on VHS and hated it so much that I forgot I had it for a couple of weeks. So I hated it plus I paid a hefty late fee!

It was very good. I wouldn't say absolutely excellent. But I also thought the trailer was shit.

Yeah, the trailer was bad. After I heard all kinds of positive things about the film I rewatched the trailer, and still thought it was awful. I went despite that, because I really enjoyed the Fletch books, the Chase Fletch films, and Jon Hamm's acting, and I'm glad I gave it a chance.

I still find the movie very confusing. There's so many red herrings I can't keep it straight anymore, and then it turns out my first impulses were correct.

Watching now. First impressions: Hamm slips into the role easier than I would have thought, but his age is such that perhaps Chevy may as well have been considered also.

Jon Hamm seems like the right age for the role to me. I never even thought about his age while I watched the film. Meanwhile, I assume you're joking about Chevy Chase, who is 28 years old than Hamm. As great as he was in the role the first time around, it would be ridiculous to see him try it now.

Yes I utilized a device known as hyperbole. It spices things up a bit, and can be humorous at times.

Fletch is supposed to be 50ish in your mind then? To me he's mid thirtiesish

Well, it's acting, and Hamm can be convincing as anything from late 30s to mid 50s. As for Fletch in Confess, Fletch, we're encountering him after he's retired from journalism, and stepped away from the rat race for awhile. I imagine him anywhere between 45 and 55.

OK, but this is movie realism. If were going to try to stick to actual reality more then if he was mid thirties in the 80s he'd be much older than Hamm is now.

Should have been titled Fletch + Jowls

Because even if Fletch in Fletch, Confess is portrayed as having been through the adventures we saw Chevy Chase have in his two films, those adventures would have taken place more recently. If that bothers you for some reason, then think of this film as a soft reboot of the franchise, the way people think of James Bond. Otherwise, what you're writing is like saying Michael Caine should be the next James Bond, because Dr. No took place in 1962, so Bond must be close to 90 now.

It's not that it bothers me, he's just too old. Like I said to begin with. If you're trying to convince me otherwise good luck sir. But keep trying please, I want to see how far you'll go.

What do you see that I don't? I see you insisting he's too old, and trying to convince me that I'm wrong to think he's fine for the part, suggesting that in my mind Fletch must be old for me to think Hamm is age appropriate. I'm like-- I just think he's good for the part.

I really liked this too. Wasn't sure at first, and at times it seemed like Hamm was doing too much of a Chevy impersonation, but it wasn't as goofy as the original Fletch movie. And I really liked the cast of characters. I hope they make another 1-2 of these.

Same here. I'd be very happy to see at least one more Hamm as Fletch film, if not more, as long as the quality remains the same.
