Can we all agree that Charlotte is racist?...

She should NEVER leave the country!

In SATC 1, they went to Mexico and refused to eat ANY FOOD/DRINK! Day one, I understand , but AFTER SEEING HER FRIENDS NOT GET SICK wouldn't she have started to eat/drink?

And THEN in SATC 2, they go to the Middle East and she goes by her maiden name because "it's the *MIDDLE EAST*..."

Typical rich socialite!

Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen! It's not going to happen!

reply

I woul say she feeds into cultural stereotypes but....

Read up on some of the stuff that goes on with foreign tourists in Middle Eastern countries, I think she is right to be careful. There was a Norwegian woman that traveled to Dubai for business and was sexually assaulted, after she went to the police to report it SHE was arrested for having unlawful sex.

The Mexico thing was definitely her pompous attitude coming out but I kinda get what she meant with the Middle Eastern thing too. Everyone really has to be careful in countries like that, even Middle Eastern people have to tread carefully...

Ashmi any question

reply

I don't think she was a racist just misinformed and inexperienced. Perhaps a touch of OCD? I found her character very endearing.

reply

Sheltered woman, and didn't have much knowledge of the world beyond the walls of her upper class NYC apartment. Typical rich bitch

At the end of the day, you won't be happy until you love yourself

reply

I found Charlotte very endearing too.

Sarah Silverman Is Magic

Amanda Bynes is hot, Lindsay Lohan is not

reply

Can someone please explain the maiden name bit? What's the connection with the middle east?

reply

Yeah, i'm curious about it too.

reply

The reason she didn't want to use her new married name, Goldenblatt (a Jewish name), is because she was going to a Muslim country, and many muslims hate jews with a passion. It was easier to use her maiden name, York, which is a more typical British/American name.

This has nothing to do with her being a racist, but simply taking caution.
The person who claims she's a racist beacuse of this, has no clue what is going on in the Middle East and also in Europe.

I can tell you some facts: The former president of Iran (a muslim country) stated that "Israel should be obliterated from the face of the Earth".

In my country, Norway, young muslim girls who dresses in a Western style in public, have been spit on by older muslim women, who consider them to dress indecent. Blonde Norwegian girls are being harassed just because of their blonde hair, and also because of their clothing style. Synagogues (Jewish holy houses) have been shot at, by muslims. Kids in school, who have salami (pork) on their lunch sandwiches, have been threatened and harassed by muslim kids, because the pig is a "filthy" animal, according to Islam.

And these are just some examples of problems we are facing in our new "multicultural" Norway...
Progress? I think not.

reply

You are right. For example: Anders Breivik. *beep* muslim multicultural terrorist

reply

How could Charlotte be rascist if she adopted a chinese girl?
Her attitude sometimes is childish and kind of ignorant, bit I do agree she did well taking precautions visiting a very islamic country. I couldn't deal with so much misoginia (sp?).

Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language.

reply

You reading too much into stuff that means nothing . I am not a racist and I never eat anything in Mexico when we go on a cruise.

reply

Nope! The only thing I'd agree to is that the OP is an idiot.

reply

Idk what opposite form of utopian people think Mexico is but the food is healthy, and the only thread is the water which you can just drink bottled, so Charlotte exaggerated on that part, but her name change in Abu dabi was very well, considering the kind of social and political problems they are having there, and across the Middle East, hell even being American there is dangerous

reply

True. In the US, we have the unfortunate luxury of using political correctness as a means to falsely boast a naïve sense of moral superiority.

That said, I refer to it as a luxury, for in fact it's a form of stupidity that would get you killed if you lived in many parts of the world.

reply

She's suppose to be prissy and xenophobic; it's part of the character. Personally, I think Davis is good at making Charlotte likable even during those moments and makes those lines amusing, whereas another actress would come off extremely unlikable, imho. Besides, there are pockets of heavy anti-semitism in the Middle East and Europe so, her concerns aren't totally unfounded.

reply

I agree. She never seemed uppity with the way she did and said things.

When she ate the pudding, she came off as a scared little girl, basically- not someone who hated Mexican food and was racist.

The last name thing, she sounded the exact same way.

I've always liked her character.
