This movie could've been a great opportunity to once again warn the public on the dangers of climate change. Guess the writers were too much of cowards to upset the MAGA crowd.
"Guess the writers were too much of cowards to upset the MAGA crowd."
Exactly. They ignored totally what climate scientists have been warning about for decades. As time goes on this flaw will make this movie ever more a Disney fantasy and unwatchable by sentient adults.
As time goes on, the Climate Hoax has proven to be nothing more than a hoax. Here is Climate Cult leader Al Gore in 2009 parroting some scientist who claimed the polar ice caps would be gone by 2016. What a clown! https://youtu.be/MsioIw4bvzI?si=T6zPqVNiwdH65ivr
Liar!
This is from your paper, did you even read it?
"With 2024 likely to be another year of high global average temperatures and weather extremes, it may emerge as another year of low Antarctic sea ice. Although current sea ice extent is no longer the lowest on record, conditions are still well below the 1981-2010 average, and this situation may well persist into the 2024 melt season.
So, while it is too early to say conclusively that the recent sea-ice lows are the beginning of a regime shift in Antarctic sea ice, it seems inevitable that it will eventually decline in response to human-caused climate change."
Let me repeat that conclusion for you: "IT SEEMS INEVITABLE (!) THAT IT [Antarctic sea ice] WILL EVENTUALLY DECLINE IN RESPONSE TO HUMAN-CAUSED CLIMATE CHANGE."
Now go back to sticking your head in the sand and don't bother to reply--you are herewith ignored!
Yes that little factoid was included in the article, but just like singular local weather events are insignificant when seen against the coarser grain of planetary climate change, this Antarctic phenomenon will have no influence on the overall trend of increasing temperatures and drought over most of earth's habitable regions. As the article which you yourself cited states, "IT SEEMS INEVITABLE THAT ANTARCTIC SEA ICE WILL EVENTUALLY DECLINE IN RESPONSE TO HUMAN-CAUSED CLIMATE CHANGE." That is their conclusion.
Yet the dialogue contains a lot of technical meteorological terminology that I for one didn't understand--did you actually watch the movie?
From Time: "It's not 'preaching' to acknowledge the world we all live in," said climate journalist Anna Jane Joyner on X. "Ignoring it sends a clear message too."
That line was the moment where you figured the main character would’ve responded with, “it’s climate change, mom.” But they didn’t have her do so. They openly chose to avoid the topic
The movie relied on country-music in the soundtrack for promotion - that music’s audience wouldn’t want to hear about climate change. I recall the director said he wanted to avoid lecturing on politics in this movie
Because half of the population of the USA supports Trump, and Trump believes there is no climate change. If the movie claims climate change is real, it will alienate half of the population.
Not half, not nearly. Trump's old news. There are plenty of movies in the works that don't tiptoe around mentioning man-made climate change. Stay tuned.
No, it's not about courage. It's about having the brains to know that people are sick and tired of being lectured about political shit, and it's a smarter move to just tell a story and leave the political messages out. Every movie and tv show that's had a heavy political message has been a huge turn-off to audiences everywhere, and people who produced them always lost a ton of money. Or were you asleep for the past 8 years?
