You know it's bad when the film's writers feel the need to retell the same old story in present day with bland, boring, diverse characters and using out-of-date tech that no sane storm-chaser in the real world would use anymore.

There's a reason they don't use remote-controlled drones when sending probes into tornadoes. It's a fragile craft that is highly sensitive to wind-speed and wind velocity changes, and would not only get tossed before ever getting near the tornado's outer winds, but would get smashed in less than a minute.

There were attempts to use rocket-powered probes back between the 70s and the 90s, but they were expensive, didn't always pass through the tornado funnel, and the information they recorded wasn't always reliable. However, they were better than using a crappy little 2020s drone in terms of strength and usefulness.

A flat, cone-shaped or dome-shaped probe on the ground is far more effective than the crap they appear to be using in this film. Just goes to show how F-ing stupid people are inside the Hollywood bubble.

Doesn't Hollywood fuck most factual shit up? I can understand not being 100% accurate with how things are done, but they should at least make a better effort.

reply

They didn't even try, revealing they're even dumber these days at making remakes than the people who made the original classic films back when they were new.

reply

I saw the drills and thought, "I'm sorry, what?" Even if the drills hold the frame to the ground, the rest of the truck is made of fairly thin metal that will be shredded pretty quickly.

This is Hollywood nowadays. Incompetence and laziness.

reply

Sad, but true. And they don't even care anymore. All they want is money, and they think the public is stupid enough to give it all the time, and they aren't.

reply

This movie's trailers make this come across as mostly a remake of the original, so I am not surprised that they just used the original truck from the original movie and only modified it a bit.
