What If Jeremy Renner Had Replaced Tom Cruise In Mission: Impossible?

Tom Cruise has been the driving force behind Mission: Impossible - but would the movie franchise still be the same if Jeremy Renner had replaced him?

I just don't think Jeremy Renner is a leading man of franchise like this or Jason Bourne. I was really hoping Henry Cavill would have been that guy but alas. Cruise isn't getting younger, and they'll continue on the franchise without him sooner or later so it be good to see Cruise pass it on to someone else. It's going to end up as American version of James Bond Franchise.

I felt bad for him cause it was clear Universal wanted him to be Cruise's replacement, at least in Ghost Protocol he's given a lot to do. But in Rogue Nation, he fades a bit into the background. And is pretty much gone by Fallout.

I don't think the films would have been as big of a success with him as the lead. Cruise really is creative driving force behind the films. Renner is fine as another member of the team but he's not a leading man for a franchise like this imo.

It seems like Hollywood was trying really hard to make Jeremy Renner "happen". First, they tried to give him the Bourne franchise and then this one. But he just didn't have the star power they thought he did. I am not sure Cruise is easily replaceable, but Renner wouldn't have been the right guy to do that.
